The Women's Senior Amateur, also known as the Ladies' Senior British Open Amateur Championship, is a golf tournament organised annually by The R&A. The championship is open to players aged 50 years and over, and was first played in 1981. In 2022 the event was played over 72 holes, having previously been over 54 holes, although it was played over 36 holes up to 1995. [1]
In the past 25 years, both Angela Uzielli (1998 and 1999) and Eva Ansgarius (2004 and 2005) have managed to successfully defend their titles. Uzielli won the championship a record six times in the 1990s. [2]
The winner is awarded the Clark Trophy, which was presented to the Ladies Golf Union by Linda Clark.

The Women's Amateur Championship, previously known as the Ladies' British Open Amateur Championship, was founded in 1893 by the Ladies' Golf Union. It is organised by The R&A, which merged with the Ladies' Golf Union in 2017. Until the dawn of the professional era in 1976, it was the most important golf tournament for women in Great Britain, and attracted players from continental Europe, North America, and the rest of the world. Along with the U.S. Women's Amateur, it is considered the highest honour in women's amateur golf.
Dale Reid was a Scottish professional golfer. She was one of the most successful players in the history of the Ladies European Tour, with 21 tournament victories. She topped the Order of Merit in 1984 and 1987 and was made a life member of the tour after collecting her 20th title at the 1991 Ford Classic. She played for Europe in the first four Solheim Cups and was Europe's non-playing captain in 2000 and 2002.
The 2011 Ricoh Women's British Open was held 28–31 July at Carnoustie Golf Links in Angus, Scotland. It was the 35th Women's British Open, and the 11th as a major championship on the LPGA Tour. This was the first time for the Women's British Open at Carnoustie, which previously hosted seven Open Championships, most recently in 2007.
Penny B. Grice-Whittaker is a former English golfer turned singer. As an amateur golfer, Grice-Whittaker won multiple events in England and was a bronze medalist for the Great Britain and Ireland team at the 1984 Espirito Santo Trophy. She also participated at the Curtis Cup that year for Great Britain before turning professional in 1985. As a professional golfer, Grice-Whittaker won her first Ladies European Tour event at the 1986 Belgian Ladies Godiva Open. She later won additional LET events in 1991 at the Weetabix Women's British Open and Longines Classic. On the Australian Ladies Professional Golf Tour, Grice-Whittaker won the 1992 Hisiki Ladies Queensland Open. After retiring from golf in 1998, Grice-Whittaker became a member of the female musical duo Bits-n-Pieces in the early 2000s.
Ladies' British Open Amateur Stroke Play Championship was founded in 1969 by the Ladies' Golf Union of Great Britain.
