Woodhill Cemetery is believed to have originated in its current spot in the 1850s when the townspeople of Franklin sought a location for a new cemetery outside of downtown. They decided upon a hill near Clear Creek which overlooked the town called Wood Hill. Franklin Township took over operations around the year 1882. [1] The cemetery is spread out over 100 acres; which including two large mausoleums, war memorials, and many old-growth deciduous trees. [2]

It is approximately 5 miles east of Lebanon, and 2 miles south of Oregonia in eastern Turtlecreek Township. The area is served by the Oregonia post office, and Lebanon phone exchange and school district. Wilmington Road crosses the Little Miami River and intersects Corwin Road in this area. The bridge is known as the Mathers Mill bridge and the steep hill up out of the valley is sometimes referred to as Mathers Mill Hill.

The area was first settled and founded by the family of Joseph M. Briggs, after whom the neighborhood was named. Joseph Briggs was an active figure in the early years of the township and county operations. The Briggsdale Methodist church was founded with his help, and it now exists as the New Horizons Methodist Church. The present day Briggsdale neighborhood is located near the historical Green Lawn Cemetery to the north as well as Briggs High School to the west.
