Wright Wharf (or Wright's Wharf) is a historic wharf in Portland, Maine, [1] on the edge of the Fore River. It is located on Commercial Street between Portland Fish Pier (to the north) and Hobson's Wharf (to the south). [2] [3] [4] [5] Brown's Wharf formerly stood to the north, [6] where the parking lot for Portland Fish Pier is today.

The wharf is named for A. R. Wright, who owned a coal works on it in the early 20th century. [7] The wharf is owned by the Gulf of Maine Research Institute. [8]

Built in 1807, it is the only known surviving tower of its type in the United States. Using both a telescope and signal flags, two-way communication between ship and shore was possible several hours before an incoming vessel reached the docks. The tower was designated a National Historic Landmark and a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark in 2006; it is now managed by Greater Portland Landmarks, a local historic preservation nonprofit. It is open to the public as a museum.
