XXXX Gold is a mid-strength Australian lager manufactured in the state of Queensland, Australia, by Castlemaine Perkins. It is one of Australia's most popular beers, [1] and is part of the XXXX beer brand. XXXX Gold is also produced in the Boag's Brewery in Launceston, Tasmania. XXXX Gold is a sponsor of the Queensland Bulls and the Queensland, South Australian, Australian Capital Territory and Northern Territory Cricket Associations. [2] XXXX Gold previously sponsored the Australian V8 Supercars Championship Series from 2008 to 2011, as well as the Professional Bull Riders' (PBR) Australian branch. [3] XXXX Gold has sponsored the Brisbane Lions since 2017 (shorts sponsor 2017–2018), and it remains one of the few active XXXX sponsorships.

History

Victoria Bitter has held the highest market share of all beer sold in Australia for more than two decades. However, in 2012, this mantle passed to the Lion Nathan's Queensland XXXX Gold. [4] Lion Nathan passed the mantle back to Victoria Bitter in 2013. [5] In March 2012, XXXX GOLD obtained a three-year lease on the 6-hectare (15-acre) Pumpkin Island on the Southern Great Barrier Reef, which they turned into XXXX Island to use in advertising and promotional events. [6] XXXX sponsored the XXXX Gold Beach Cricket Tri-Nations series , which involved famous cricket players from Australia, England and the West Indies such as Allan Border, Graham Gooch, Courtney Walsh and Sir Viv Richards. [7]

Thunder Road Brewing Company is an independent brewery operating in the Melbourne inner suburb of Brunswick, Australia. Since opening its doors for business in 2011, the brewery’s beers have been distributed for sale in Melbourne and distribution is now expanding throughout Australia. Thunder Road Brewing Company brews year-round flagship beers including Full Steam Pale Lager, Collingwood Draught, Hop Star, Brunswick Bitter, as well as limited release seasonal beers, for on-tap sales. Victoria Bitter Gold is a mid strength Lager with an alcohol volume of 3.0% created in 2007 by Foster's. Originally branded as 'VB Midstrength Lager', Victoria Bitter Gold was created in order to capitalise on the growing market for mid strength beers, currently dominated by XXXX Gold. Victoria Bitter Gold rebranded from 'VB Mid strength' in 2009 and sells over one million cases every year and has grown strongly in popularity following its launch in late 2007. Originally brewed at 3.5% the alcohol volume has since been reduced to 3.0%.

Power's Brewery now CUB brewery, is a brewery based at Yatala in South East Queensland, Australia. It started out as an upstart brewery headed by publican Bernie Power to compete against the major Queensland brewery Castlemaine Perkins, in particular XXXX, during the Australian beer wars of the late 1980s. When mogul Alan Bond took over XXXX, Power's commenced operations in 1988. Castlemaine Perkins changed their terms of credit to hoteliers from one month to one week in late 1985. Power then became determined to brew his own brand. He head hunted a number of young brewers from various brands.
