Yaakov "Koby" Nahmias is an Israeli biomedical engineer and entrepreneur. Nahmias is a professor at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and an affiliated member of the NIH-funded BioMEMS Resource Center at Massachusetts General Hospital.
Nahmias is the founding director of the Alexander Grass Center for Bioengineering. He is a co-founder of Israel’s BioDesign Medical Innovation program, recently listed as a major reason for Boston Scientific's continued investment in Israel. [1]
In 2014, he won the Rappaport Prize for Biomedical Sciences for his “groundbreaking work on liver tissue engineering” and the “development of nanotechnology therapies for the treatment of diabetes”. [2] [3]
Nahmias edited a book titled Microdevices in Biology and Medicine, and is currently serving as a technology consultant for L’Oreal, [4] and a member of the European Research Council panel for applied life sciences and biotechnology. [5]
In 2018, Nahmias became the co-founder and chief scientific officer of Future Meat Technologies. [6]
Yaakov Nahmias received his B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering and Biology from the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology, graduating Magna Cum Laude. [7] He completed his PhD at the University of Minnesota with David Odde, [8] and his postdoctoral training at Harvard Medical School with Martin Yarmush. In 2006, he became an independent investigator at Harvard Medical School, winning a NIH Research Scientist Development Award (K01). [9] Nahmias moved to the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 2009, where he won two major European Research Council (ERC) Starting and Consolidator Grants, [10] [11] and founded the Alexander Grass Center for Bioengineering. In 2010, Nahmias became a Golda Meir fellow and a member of the ERC Starting Grant panel on applied life sciences and biotechnology (LS9). [12] In 2012, Nahmias together with Chaim Lotan, established BioDesign Israel, a multi-disciplinary program in medical innovation taught at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and its affiliated Hadassah Medical Center. Nahmias is a liver biologist and a biomedical engineer who took part in the development of Lodamin, the first oral, broad-spectrum angiogenesis inhibitor [15] and the first decellularization of an intact liver for transplantation. [16] His own work showed that the Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) assembles on VLDL and that its production is blocked by the grapefruit flavonoid naringenin. [17] Nahmias' work is leading to a growing understanding of the role of diet and nutrition on liver metabolism, [18] including the first demonstration that gut bacteria affect liver development after birth, [19] and explaining the toxic effects of acetaminophen using liver-on-chip technology. [20]
Nahmias is married to Michal Haimov, an attorney specializing in real estate and securities. The couple met at the University of Minnesota, are currently living in Eden Prairie and have three children.

Bhatia is an American biological engineer and the John J. and Dorothy Wilson Professor at MIT’s Institute for Medical Engineering and Science and Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States. Bhatia's research investigates applications of micro- and nano-technology for tissue repair and regeneration. Martin (Maish) L. Yarmush is an academic, American scientist, physician, and engineer known for his work in biotechnology and bioengineering. His faculty career began in 1984 at MIT in the Department of Chemical Engineering as a Principal Research Associate and Lucille P. Markey Scholar in Biomedical Science. In 1988 he joined Rutgers University, as Professor of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering and a member of the Center of Advanced Biotechnology and Medicine. In 1995, he returned to the Boston area to serve as the Helen Andrus Benedict Professor of Surgery and Bioengineering in the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology, and to establish the Center for Engineering in Medicine at the Harvard Affiliated Teaching Hospitals. In 2007 he returned to Rutgers to hold the Paul and Mary Monroe Endowed Chair in Science and Engineering and serve as Distinguished Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering. He also holds a Lecturer in Surgery and Bioengineering position at Harvard Medical School, and is a member of the Senior Scientific Staff at the Shriners children's hospital in Boston.

Believer Meats, from 2018 to 2022 known as Future Meat Technologies, or Future Meat for short, is a biotechnology firm which produces cultured meat from chicken cells and is working on cultured lamb kebabs and beef burgers. Based in Israel, its main office is located in Jerusalem, while its primary production facility is operating in Rehovot. Future Meat Technologies mainly seeks to supply hardware and cell lines to manufacturers of cultured meat rather than directly selling food products to consumers. In November 2022, Future Meat Technologies rebranded to Believer Meats.
