Yamini is an annual Indian classical music festival in Bangalore, organized by SPIC MACAY and hosted at Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB). [1] [2] [3]

Contents

Structure

The annual music event is being held for more than 7 years. The event is generally held in open air inside IIMB campus at the night before India's republic day and runs from dusk to dawn (6pm to 6 am). [4] [2] According to SPICMACAY, the primary organizers, the goal of the festival is to introduce and promote Indian classical music and arts amongst the young generation. [5]

Vasanta Habba, which means spring festival in the Kannada language, is a cultural festival organised by the Nrityagram foundation in the city of Bangalore, India. It is a very popular event and is considered the classical Woodstock of India. This festival, first held in the year 1990, was the brainchild of Protima Bedi, the founder of Nrityagram. The festival is held in the premises of Nrityagram at Hesaraghatta in the outskirts of Bangalore and attracts the best musicians, dancers and cultural artists from across India. Starting from an audience of about 3000 in its inaugural year, the 2003 edition saw over 40,000 people attending the event.

Bangalore Gayana Samaja is one of the oldest cultural organisations in Bangalore and was established in 1905. It is the oldest operational sabhā in India. The organisation focuses on various Indian forms of Indian music such as Carnatic music, Hindustani music, devotional, light music, Harikathe, folk music and theatre along with various Indian dance forms such as Bharatanatya, Kuchipudi, Kathak, Kathakali, Chau, Odissi and Manipuri.

Unmaad is the annual cultural festival presented by Indian Institute of Management Bangalore. Conducted over a period of three days, Unmaad includes events like dramatics, music performances, dances, quizzes, debates, street plays, professional concerts and fashion show. Pearl is the annual national cultural fest of BITS Pilani, Hyderabad Campus. Initially introduced in 2009 as an intra-college festival, a year after the foundation of BITS Pilani, Hyderabad, the fest grew into a national level college cultural fest with participation from more than 50 colleges across India with footfall around 8000. Pearl hosts a variety of cultural events and competitions which include music, dance, literary, photography and quizzing. The fest also hosts talks and pro-shows with celebrities and bands of national and international renown appearing and/or performing during the fest in the 15 years since its inception.

Manfest-Varchasva is the annual management and cultural festival organized by Indian Institute of Management Lucknow in the third week of January every year. Strawberry Fields is an annual independent music festival held in Bangalore, India. It is one of India's largest student-organized music festivals, and attracts participants and audiences from across India and neighboring countries. The event is organized by the National Law School of India University, primarily by the student body, but with the official support of the university authorities. It provides a platform for semi-professional and college bands to compete and showcase their talent to a live audience of over 8000 people. The competition has built a legacy amongst music enthusiasts and has bolstered the independent music scene in India. It has served as a launch pad for bands like Motherjane, Thermal and a Quarter, Demonic Resurrection, Bhayanak Maut, and Kryptos. Many influential bands such as Parvaaz, Inner Sanctum, The Down Troddence and Parikrama have headlined at Strawberry Fields. The event is usually held on the university campus, although it was held in the Bangalore Palace grounds in 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2013.

Srinivasa Iyer Ramaswamy (1926–2012), popularly known as Cartman Ramaswamy, was an Indian engineer, educationist, management academic and writer, and the founder director of the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore. He was the founder of Centre for Action, Research and Technology for Man, Animal and Nature (CARTMAN), a non governmental organization working for region-relevant and appropriate technology transfer to rural areas and Indian Heritage Academy, an organization involved in propagating Indian cultural traditions. He was also the founder chairman of the Adarsh Vidya Kendra (AVK) Group of educational institutions. The Government of India awarded him the third highest civilian honour of the Padma Bhushan, in 2006, for his contributions to society.

Rudrapatna Krishnadikshita Padmanabha, commonly known by his initials RKP, is an Indian Carnatic music vocalist, performer, music teacher and author from the state of Karnataka. He established "Sapta Swara Devatha Dhyana Mandira" at native village Rudrapatna, Karnataka, memorializing renowned musicians of Indian classical music. He has been serving as the president of Karnataka Ganakala Parishat since 2004. He received Kempegowda Award and Sangeet Natak Akademi Award.
