Yash Paul Kundal is an Indian politician belonging to Indian National Congress in Jammu and Kashmir. He was the state president of Young Panthers,the youth wing of the Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party. [1] He has twice been a Member of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, [2] and was the Minister of Animal and Sheep Husbandry from 2002 to 2008. [3] On 8 April 2022,he joined Aam Admi Party. [4] [5]
Kundal graduated from Jammu University in 1997. [6] Later he completed Masters in Political Science.
Kundal has won two elections for the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly in Samba,Jammu. [7] After the 2002 Jammu and Kashmir general elections,he served as the Minister of Animal and Sheep Husbandry in the government. After his second election victory in 2008 Jammu and Kashmir elections he was part of the opposition. [8]
In November 2014,he was appointed as the state president of Young Panthers. [9]
As a MLA he supported the Indian Border Security Force's tree planting drive,being their chief guest and planting the first tree in his constituency of Samba. The BSF went on to plant 200,000 saplings. [10]
Kundal,with Harsh Dev Singh,led protests in Jammu on 18 September 2016 against Pakistan after the 2016 Uri attack on an Indian army base,accusing Pakistan of supporting the terrorist attacks. [11]
In October 2016,he accused the police of not pressing appropriate charges against BJP workers who brutally assaulted Bishan Dass,a scheduled caste youth,at Ramnagar Temple. He wanted the case to be registered as attempted murder. He alleged that hate crimes against scheduled caste members had risen in the area as a consequence of recent BJP electoral victories,saying that seven unexplained deaths of scheduled caste members had gone unsolved in the area over a period of 18 months. [12] Previously,in the December 2014 Jammu and Kashmir general elections,he had lost his seat to a BJP candidate.
In February 2020,Kundul was named as the Chairman of the National Panthers Party Working Committee. [13]
Mufti Mohammad Sayeed was an Indian politician who served as the chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir twice from November 2002 to November 2005 and from March 2015 until his death on January 7,2016. He held various positions,including minister of Tourism in Rajiv Gandhi's cabinet and minister of Home Affairs in V. P. Singh's cabinet. Sayeed began his political career in the wing of the National Conference led by G. M. Sadiq,which later merged with the Indian National Congress. In 1987,he transitioned to the Janata Dal and subsequently founded the People's Democratic Party (PDP),a regional political party that remains influential in Jammu and Kashmir,currently led by his daughter,Mehbooba Mufti.
Mehbooba Mufti Sayed (Urdu:محبوبہمفتیسید) is an Indian politician and leader of the Jammu and Kashmir People's Democratic Party (PDP),who served as the 9th and last chief minister of the erstwhile state Jammu and Kashmir from 4 April 2016 to 19 June 2018. She was the first female chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir. After the revocation of Article 370 of the constitution in August 2019,Mufti was detained without any charges at first and later under the Jammu and Kashmir Public Safety Act.
Bhim Singh was an Indian politician,activist,lawyer and author. He was the founder,president and chief patron of the socialist and secular Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP). Singh was Panthers Party chairman for 30 years from 1982-2012,chief patron from 2012-2021,and president from 14 February 2021-31 May 2022. In effect with over 40 years of controlling leadership,he was India’s longest serving political party leader,and one of the longest serving leaders in the world.

Samba district is an administrative district in the Jammu division of Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir in the disputed Kashmir region. It was formed in 2006. Before its formation,this area was part of Jammu district and Kathua district.

Jay Mala was an Indian journalist,politician,advocate and social activist. She was a senior advocate of the Supreme Court of India,who filed over 600 cases and won each one,including a 1985 landmark case where she sued the State of Jammu and Kashmir changing tort law in India. Mala was co-founder of the Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) in 1982. On 7 May 2022 she became Chairperson of the Panthers Party Working Committee,and was de facto president of Panthers Party from 31 May 2022 to 4 April 2023.

Harsh Dev Singh is an Indian politician and advocate. He was Chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party from 2012 to 2022. He won three elections serving as MLA for Ramnagar,constituency for 18 continuous years from 1996 till 2014. Under his tenure as the Minister of Education of Jammu and Kashmir from 2002 to 2008,English became a compulsory language from first grade. Harsh Dev joined Aam Aadmi Party on 7 May 2022,and on 17 October 2022 he became AAP chairman in Jammu and Kashmir. On 16 Feb 2023,he resigned from AAP and rejoined Panthers Party to revive it. On April 4,he was elected President of Panthers Party.
Balwant Singh Mankotia is an Indian politician and the former President of the Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party. He has been three times elected member of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly,holding office for over 12 years. He is a leading campaigner for secular values against the terrorist insurgency in Jammu and Kashmir. On 29 September 2022,he joined Bhartiya Janata Party. He won the 2024 elections from Chenani Assembly constituency,a seat previously held by his uncle Bhim Singh,and defeating his cousin Harsh Dev Singh by a margin 15,611 votes.
Dina Nath Bhagat is an Indian politician from Jammu and Kashmir. He won the 2014 Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly election from the Chanani constituency which is reserved for Scheduled Caste community in Udhampur district elected on BJP ticket.
Chowdhary Zulfkar Ali is an Indian politician and former cabinet minister of Jammu and Kashmir. He is an advocate by profession and was a member of the 11th and 12th Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly from Darhal constituency. He has also served as Cabinet Minister from 2015 to 2018. He was also associated with Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party and served as district chief of the party for district Rajouri 2003 to 2013. He resigned from the PDP and became one of the founding member of Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party. Presently Vice President of the party. in August 2024,He joined BJP.
Legislative Assembly elections were held in Jammu and Kashmir from 18 September to 1 October 2024 in 3 phases to elect 90 members of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly. The results of the elections were announced on 8 October 2024. The INDIA alliance,consisting of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC),the Indian National Congress (INC) and the Communist Party of India (Marxist),won a majority of seats in the election,winning 49 of the 90 seats for which elections were held,with the JKNC winning the highest number of seats.
