Yasmin Miller (born 24 May 1995) is a British track and field athlete who has competed in sprint and hurdles events. She competed in the 100 metres hurdles for Great Britain at the age of 16 at the 2011 World Youth Championships in Athletics. She won the same event at that year's Commonwealth Youth Games and was also a member of the winning 4 × 100 metres relay team. She repeated the latter success in the 2013 European Athletics Junior Championships. Miller has enjoyed some success at national-level hurdling, winning two bronze, a silver and gold in the 60 metres hurdles at the British Indoor Athletics Championships and a silver and a bronze in the 100 m hurdles at the British Athletics Championships.

Career

Youth career

Miller was born on 24 May 1995. [1] She attended school in Derbyshire. [2] At the age of 16 she competed for Great Britain at the 2011 World Youth Championships in Athletics in Lille, France. She failed to progress from the semi-finals in the 100 m hurdles event. [1] In September of that year Miller won gold in the same event at the 2011 Commonwealth Youth Games. [3] In the same competition she won gold in the 4 × 100 m relay with Dina Asher-Smith, Sophie Papps and Jazmin Sawyers. [4]

Miller was part of the gold medal–winning British team in the 4 × 100 m relay at the 2013 European Athletics Junior Championships in Rieti, Italy, alongside Asher-Smith, Steffi Wilson and Desiree Henry. [1] [5] Miller also competed in the 100 m hurdles at the same event but did not progress beyond the heats. [1] That year she was named sportsperson of the year at the 2013 Derbyshire Schools' Sports Association awards. [2] Miller came fourth in the 100 m hurdles at the 2014 World Junior Championships in Athletics in Eugene, Oregon, US; in the same year she won gold in the England Athletics under 20s 100 m hurdles. [6] [1] Miller competed in the 100 m hurdles at the 2015 European Athletics U23 Championships in Tallinn, Estonia, but did not progress beyond the heats. She placed fourth in the 100 metres hurdles at the 2017 European Athletics U23 Championships at Bydgoszcz, Poland. [1]

Miller studied law at the London South Bank University, during which time she lived in Canada Water. Miller represented the university at the British Universities and Colleges Sport Nationals. At the 2017 indoors event she set a new competition record in the 60 m hurdles semi-final but came second in the final by 0.01 seconds. Later that year, in the outdoor event, she won the 100 m hurdles final. In September 2017 Miller was due to return to the university to study for a Master of Laws degree in international commercial law. [7]

Senior career

Miller competed as a senior at the 2013 British Indoor Athletics Championships, placing third in the 60 m hurdles. [8] She repeated this position at the 2015 British Indoor Athletics Championships. [9] In the 2017 British Athletics Championships she came second in the 100 m hurdles. [10]

Miller missed out on selection for the 2018 Commonwealth Games in 2017 by 0.01 seconds, running the 60 m hurdles in 8.16, when a time of 8.15 was required. In 2021 she described the incident as the "rock-bottom" of her athletics career. She afterwards saw a sports psychologist. [11] In the 2017 England Athletics Senior Track & Field Championships Miller won first place in the 100 m hurdles. [12] She placed second in the 60 m hurdles at the 2018 British Indoor Athletics Championships and third in the 100 m hurdles at the 2019 British Athletics Championships. [13] [14]

Miller won first place in the 60 m hurdles at the 2020 British Indoor Athletics Championships. [15] [16] Following the 2020 COVID-19 lockdown in the United Kingdom Miller was unable to train with her coach. She instead trained in the park opposite her flat in London, with local children following and copying her running. [11] Miller's boyfriend helped by timing her runs. [11] [17]

Mark Anthony McKoy is a Canadian retired track and field athlete. He won the gold medal in the 110 metres hurdles at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. He also won the 60 metres hurdles title at the 1993 IAAF World Indoor Championships, and the 110 metres hurdles titles at the Commonwealth Games in 1982 and 1986. He is the World record holder for the 50 metres hurdles with 6.25 secs (1986), and the Canadian record holder in the 60 metres hurdles with 7.41 secs (1993), and the 110 metres hurdles with 13.08 secs (1993).

Jessica Ennis-Hill British former track and field athlete

Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill is a British retired track and field athlete from England, specialising in multi-eventing disciplines and 100 metres hurdles. As a competitor in heptathlon, she is the 2012 Olympic champion, a three-time world champion, and the 2010 European champion. She is also the 2010 world indoor pentathlon champion. A member of the City of Sheffield & Dearne athletic club, she is a former British national record holder for the heptathlon. She is a former British record holder in the 100 metres hurdles, the high jump and the indoor pentathlon. Today, Ennis-Hill commentates for the BBC and runs Jennis, a fitness app specialising in women's health. Her latest product launch is CycleMapping, which helps women map their training to their menstrual cycles.

Harry Aikines-Aryeetey British sprinter

Harry Leslie Aikines-Aryeetey is an English sprinter. A prodigious junior runner, in 2005 he was named as the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year and the IAAF's Rising Star of the Year after becoming the first athlete to win gold medals at both 100 metres and 200 metres at the World Youth Championships.

Wendy Patricia Hoyte is a British former sprinter, who won a 1982 Commonwealth Games gold medal and a 1982 European Championships silver medal in the 4 x 100 metres relay. She also competed at the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games. She is the holder of the United Kingdom indoor 50 m record, which she set in 1981. As of 2016, the record still stands.

Clova E. Court is a retired English athlete, who competed mainly in the heptathlon and the 100 metres hurdles. She represented Great Britain in the heptathlon at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona. She won a record five AAA Championships heptathlon tiles, and also won the 1994 AAAs Championship 100 metres hurdles title, defeating Sally Gunnell.

Amantle Montsho Botswana sprinter

Amantle Montsho is a female sprinter from Botswana who specializes in the 400 metres. She represented her country at the 2004 and 2008 Summer Olympics, reaching the final at the latter edition. She was the first woman to represent Botswana at the Olympics. She has also competed at the World Championships in Athletics and the IAAF World Indoor Championships, and is the former World Champion over the 400m, winning in a personal best time of 49.56 in Daegu.

Asha Solette Philip is an English sprinter and former junior gymnast specialising in double mini-trampoline. She was the first British woman to achieve a global 100 metres title at any age-group, winning gold at the 2007 World Youth Championships aged 16. Following a serious knee injury in gymnastics, and a rehabilitation period of several years, she returned to athletics full-time in 2014, winning gold at the European Athletics Championships in the 4 x 100 metres relay for Great Britain, and bronze in the same event at the Commonwealth Games for England.

Eilidh Doyle is a retired British track and field athlete who specialised in the 400 metres hurdles and the 4 x 400 metres relay. She represented Great Britain at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, and won an Olympic bronze medal in the 4 x 400 metres relay at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Angela Whyte Canadian hurdler

Angela Whyte is a Canadian hurdler in track and field athletic competition. She is a three-time Olympian in the 100m hurdles at the Summer Olympics. She has won multiple medals at both the Pan American Games and the Commonwealth Games in the 100 metres hurdles. She was a four-time All-American and a five-time Big West Conference champion in two years of competition at the University of Idaho and holds school records in the sprints, hurdles, jumps, multi-events and relays at both Idaho and the University of New Mexico. She also holds two Big West records in the 100m hurdles. She is currently an assistant track and field coach at Washington State University.

Michelle "Shelly" Jenneke is an Australian hurdler and model. She won a silver medal for the 100 m hurdles at the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics and the 100 m hurdles at the 2016 Australian Athletics Championships to qualify for the Rio Olympic Games. In 2012, she received worldwide media attention after her pre-race warm-up dance went viral on the internet and was featured in the 2013 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.

Geraldina Asher-Smith is a British sprinter. She is the fastest British woman in recorded history and has been listed in the Powerlist as one of the UK's most influential people of African/African Caribbean descent, most recently in the 2021 edition. Asher-Smith has won a gold medal in the 200 m, silver in the 100 m, and another silver in the 4×100 m relay at the 2019 World Championships, breaking in the individual races her own British records with results which still stand. Aged 24, she was the first Briton to win three medals at a World Championships. At the relay event, she earned medals from the 2016 Rio Olympics and 2020 Tokyo Olympics, and also from the 2013 and 2017 World Championships.

Janieve Russell Jamaican track and field athlete

Janieve Russell is a Jamaican track and field athlete who competes mainly in the 400 metres hurdles and the 400 metres sprint. Her personal bests for the events are 53.08 seconds and 51.17 seconds, respectively. At the 2014 Commonwealth Games she was the 400 m hurdles bronze medallist and a 4×400 metres relay gold medallist. At the 2018 Commonwealth Games She won the 400m hurdles in a time of 54.33 seconds.

Oluwatobiloba Ayomide "Tobi" Amusan is a Nigerian track and field athlete who specialises in the 100 metres hurdles and also competes as a sprinter. She Won the 2018 Commonwealth and 2018 African champion in the event. She is also a two-time African Games champion. She won the Diamond League Trophy in Zurich in 2021 in the 100m hurdles.

Andrea Joan Caron Lynch is a British former track and field sprinter who competed mainly in the 100 metres. A two-time Olympian, the peak of her career was becoming a bronze medallist in the 100 m at the 1974 European Championships and a double silver medallist in the 100 m and 4 × 100 metres relay at the 1974 British Commonwealth Games. A former British record holder in the 100 m, she has a hand-timed best of 10.9 seconds in 1974 and an auto-timed best of 11.16 secs in 1975. Her 200 metres best is 23.15 secs in 1975.

Yvette Julie Wray is a female former English pentathlete, hurdler and sprinter. Born in Scraptoft, Leicestershire, she competed for Great Britain at the Olympic Games in Moscow 1980. She also represented England at the Commonwealth Games in 1978 and 1982, winning two bronze medals.

Mikiah Brisco American track and field athlete (b. 1996)

Mikiah Janee Brisco is an American female track and field sprinter. She holds personal records of 10.96 seconds for the 100-meter dash and 22.59 seconds for the 200-meter dash. She also previously competed in the 100-meter hurdles, having a best of 12.85 seconds. She was a gold medallist at the 2019 IAAF World Relays and was the 60-meter dash national champion in 2020.
