The Yeso River is a river in Chile that runs 4 miles (~6km) and is one of the main tributaries of the Maipo River. Rapids for the Yeso River vary between Class IV and V and the river has many steep drops and narrow chutes. It serves as a source of water for Metropolitan Santiago. [1]

Laja River is a river in Chile, along which can be found the Laja Falls. It is located in the Bío Bío Region. The source of the river is Laguna del Laja in the Andes, then flows westward through the Chilean Central Valley and terminates into the Bío Bío River, being an important tributary of it.

The Central Valley, Intermediate Depression, or Longitudinal Valley is the depression between the Chilean Coastal Range and the Andes Mountains. Lauca National Park is located in Chile's far north, in the Andean range. It encompasses an area of 1,379 km2 of altiplano and mountains, the latter consisting mainly of enormous volcanoes. Las Vicuñas National Reserve is its neighbour to the south. Both protected areas, along with Salar de Surire Natural Monument, form Lauca Biosphere Reserve. The park borders Sajama National Park in Bolivia.

Maipo River river in Chile

The Maipo River is the main river flowing through the Santiago Metropolitan Region and the Valparaiso Region of Chile. It is located just south of the capital of Santiago. The Mapocho River, which flows through central Santiago, is one of its tributaries. Its headwaters are on the west slope of Maipo volcano, in the Andes. The Maipo River is by far the major source of irrigation and potable water for the region.

Cajón del Maipo

Cajón del Maipo is a canyon located in the Andean southeastern portion of the Santiago Metropolitan Region, Chile. It encompasses the upper Maipo River basin, where the river has entrenched itself in a narrow valley. The zone features a series of confluent rivers such as El Volcán River, Yeso River and Colorado River, as well as other minor streams, including San Gabriel, Manzanito, Coyanco, El Sauce, El Manzano and San José. The main locality is San José de Maipo, capital of the commune that includes all of the Andean sector of the Metropolitan Region. The valley ends almost at the border with Argentina, where it is surrounded by some of the highest peaks in the region, including San José, Maipo, and Marmolejo, the most southerly mountain taller than 6,000 metres (20,000 ft) in the world. Several of the mountains are active volcanoes; San Jose was the most recent to erupt, in 1960.

El Yeso Dam

El Yeso is a reservoir located in the Andes, in the Santiago Metropolitan Region, Chile. It was formed by the damming of the Yeso River, part of the Maipo river basin. The reservoir has a capacity of 250,000,000 m³ and was completed in 1964.

El Toro Hydroelectric Plant is a hydroelectric power station in Bío Bío Region, Chile. The plant uses water from Laja River and produces 400 megawatts (540,000 hp) of electricity. The plant was built by ENDESA in 1973.

Ayub Kheyl human settlement in Afghanistan

Ayub Kheyl is a small village 7 miles outside Khost, Afghanistan. It was the site on July 27, 2002 of a firefight by US soldiers, assisted by Afghan militia, against militants in the village. After the fight, the Americans captured the wounded 15-year-old Omar Khadr, who they learned was a Canadian citizen. He was among the youngest persons detained at Guantanamo Bay detention camp and the last Western citizen held there.
