Yolande Bain-Horsford (born 1950) is a Grenadian politician who has been a Minister of Tourism,the Minister for Agriculture and the Minister of Sport and Culture. She is a leading member of Grenada's New National Party.
Bain-Horsford was born in Saint Andrew Parish in about 1950.[ citation needed ]
In 2013 her party won every seat in the election [1] and in 2014 Prime Minister Dr Keith Mitchell rearranged his cabinet and she became the tourism minister taking over from Alexandra Otway-Noel who had held that role. Otway-Noel became a minister without portfolio. [2]
When the New National Party Women’s Arm held its 2017 Convention it was at Boca Secondary School. Bain-Horsford was the interim chairperson. There are over 72,000 voters in Grenada and about 37,000 of them are women. [3]
In 2017 she was the Minister of Agriculture. One of her concerns was food safety because it was a growing concern of the United States and the European Union. She warned nutmeg farmers to be cautious. [4] She was still looking after agriculture in 2020 as Covid 19 meant that farmers and the community had to balance the danger of spreading the virus and the need to keep producing food. [5]
In 2021 she was the Minister for Sport,Culture and the Arts,Fisheries and Co-operatives. The People’s Republic of China's government had donated eight containers of materials in 2020 and their team of eight people were maintaining the Kirani James Athletics Stadium in 2021. [6] In 2022 she announced that the restrictions due to Covid-19 were being relaxed. She allowed a blended approach to the important Spicemas festival. [7] In that year her party became the party of the opposition as they lost the election. [8]
The history of Grenada in the Caribbean,part of the Lesser Antilles group of islands,covers a period from the earliest human settlements to the establishment of the contemporary nationstate of Grenada. First settled by indigenous peoples,Grenada by the time of European contact was inhabited by the Caribs. French colonists killed most of the Caribs on the island and established plantations on the island,eventually importing African slaves to work on the sugar plantations.
The economy of Grenada is largely tourism-based,small,and open economy. Over the past two decades,the main thrust of Grenada's economy has shifted from agriculture to services,with tourism serving as the leading foreign currency earning sector. The country's principal export crops are the spices nutmeg and mace. Other crops for export include cocoa,citrus fruits,bananas,cloves,and cinnamon. Manufacturing industries in Grenada operate mostly on a small scale,including production of beverages and other foodstuffs,textiles,and the assembly of electronic components for export.
Nutmeg is the seed,or the ground spice derived from that seed,of several tree species of the genus Myristica;fragrant nutmeg or true nutmeg is a dark-leaved evergreen tree cultivated for two spices derived from its fruit:nutmeg,from its seed,and mace,from the seed covering. It is also a commercial source of nutmeg essential oil and nutmeg butter. Indonesia is the main producer of nutmeg and mace,and the true nutmeg tree is native to its islands.
The International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture,is a comprehensive international agreement in harmony with the Convention on Biological Diversity,which aims at guaranteeing food security through the conservation,exchange and sustainable use of the world's plant genetic resources for food and agriculture (PGRFA),the fair and equitable benefit sharing arising from its use,as well as the recognition of farmers' rights. It was signed in 2001 in Madrid,and entered into force on 29 June 2004.

Bishop headed the People's Revolutionary Government of Grenada from 1979 to 1983,when he was dismissed from his post and executed during the coup by Bernard Coard,leading to upheaval.
The People's Revolutionary Government (PRG) was proclaimed on 13 March 1979 after the Marxist–Leninist New Jewel Movement overthrew the government of Grenada in a revolution,making Grenada the only socialist state within the Commonwealth. In Grenada,the revolution is referred to as the March 13th Revolution of 1979 or simply as “The Revolution”. The government suspended the constitution and ruled by decree until a factional conflict broke out,culminating in an invasion by the United States on 25 October 1983.
The Ministry of Agriculture,Nature and Food Quality is the Dutch Ministry responsible for agricultural policy,food policy,food safety,fisheries,forestry,natural conservation and animal welfare. The Ministry was created in 1935 and in 2010 the department was merged with the Ministry of Economic Affairs and was named the Ministry of Economic Affairs,Agriculture and Innovation. The Ministry was reinstated in 2017;it is headed by the Minister of Agriculture,Nature and Food Quality,a member of the Cabinet of the Netherlands. The last official Minister was Henk Staghouwer he quit his job as Minister on September 5,2022. Because he felt he didn't fit the job. Currently Carola Schouten is acting Minister of Agriculture,Nature and Food Quality. She does this alongside her other Minister job.
It may be noted here that despite its small size,the Netherlands is the worlds' second exporter of agricultural products,after the United States.

A member of the Centre Party,she served as the leader of the Centre Youth from 2011 to 2013,while simultaneously serving as a deputy MP from her home constituency of Troms from 2009 to 2013. She was elected a permanent representative in 2017. In January 2024 it was revealed that significant parts of her master's thesis had been plagiarised. She announced her resignation in the evening of 19 January 2024. She risks losing her degree.
