Yolande E. Chan is a Jamaican-Canadian information systems professor. Chan joined the Desautels Faculty of Management at McGill University as Dean and James McGill Professor in August 2021. [1] Her research focuses on innovation, knowledge strategy, digital strategy, and business-IT alignment. [2] Chan has long been a champion for women and under-represented groups in academia. In her role as Dean of the Desautels Faculty of Management, she has made equity, diversity and inclusion a major strategic priority. [3]

Early life and education

Dr. Chan was born in Kingston, Jamaica to parents Phyllis and George Brown. At the age of 18, she left Jamaica to attend the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where she completed her Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering [4] and in her final undergraduate year completed her Master of Science in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. [4] She then went on to attend Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar, where she obtained her Master of Philosophy in Management Studies. [2] In doing so she became both the first female student and the first black student from MIT to be a Rhodes Scholar. [4] In 1992, she obtained a PhD in Business Administration (MIS) from Ivey Business School, at Western University. [2]

Career

Dr. Chan has served as Associate Dean of Research, PhD and MSc Programs, and the E. Marie Shantz Chair of Digital Technology at Smith School of Business at Queen's University prior to joining the Desautels Faculty of Management. [5] She has previously served as Associate Vice-Principal (Research) at Queen's University. [2] Before joining academia, she worked with Andersen Consulting (now Accenture). [6]

Her work has been published in academic journals, including MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Research , Journal of Management Information Systems , Journal of Strategic Information Systems , Journal of the Association for Information Systems , Information Systems Journal , Journal of Information Technology and European Journal of Information Systems . [7] In 2022, she was appointed [8] by Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED) to the Government of Canada's Advisory Panel on the Federal Research Support System. [9] She is the Editor-in Chief of Journal of Strategic Information Systems . [6] In December 2023 Dr. Chan was awarded the LEO prize, the highest honor given to scholars by the Association for Information Systems. [10]

Agnes Binagwaho is a Rwandan Politian, pediatrician and co-founder and the former vice chancellor of the University of Global Health Equity (2017-2022). In 1996, she returned to Rwanda where she provided clinical care in the public sector as well as held many positions including the position of Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Health of Rwanda from October 2008 until May 2011 and Minister of Health from May 2011 until July 2016. Helmut Krcmar holds the Chair for Information Systems in the Department of Informatics at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), Germany since 2002 with a joint appointment to TUM School of Management. Krcmar served as Dean of the Faculty of Informatics from 10/2010 until 09/2013. In July 2018 he was elected Vice Dean TUM School of Management and Founding Dean TUM Campus Heilbronn. He is academic director of the SAP University Competence Center @ TUM. Krcmar has supervised more than 100 Ph.D. students. Suhayya "Sue" Abu-Hakima is a Canadian technology entrepreneur and inventor of artificial intelligence (AI) applications for wireless communication and computer security. As of 2020, her company Amika Mobile has been known as Alstari Corporation as she exited her emergency and communications business to Genasys in October 2020. Since 2007, she had served as President and CEO of Amika Mobile Corporation; she similarly founded and served as President and CEO of AmikaNow! from 1998 to 2004. A frequent speaker on entrepreneurship, AI, security, messaging and wireless, she has published and presented more than 125 professional papers and holds 30 international patents in the fields of content analysis, messaging, and security. Tebello Nyokong is a South African chemist and distinguished professor at Rhodes University, and a recipient of South Africa's Order of Mapungubwe. Nyokong's work has been published around 450 times including a patent. She was awarded the South African Chemical Institute Gold Medal in 2012, and named one of the Top 10 Most Influential Women in Science and Technology in Africa by IT News Africa.
