You Once Told Me is the first officially released studio album from Andain, succeeding ten years of various works and performances.
Released on September 24, 2012 through Black Hole, You Once Told Me had been written over a span of four years, from 2007 to 2011. [1] [lower-roman 1] The album was promoted with three singles prior to its release, starting with "Promises" in June 2011, "Much Too Much" by the end of January 2012, and "Turn Up the Sound" on June 18, 2012. After much patience following unsettled circumstances, the album was officially announced on August 10, 2012, on Andain's official Facebook page. [5] With a complementary note about album previews to come the following week, a teaser of the album track "Like" was posted on Facebook, on August 17, 2012. [6] Soon after, an official album preview was exclusively announced to readers of the online promotion portal Beatsmedia, which was made available on August 21, 2012, through Andain's official SoundCloud page. The announcement also included an exclusive video message from Mavie, where she shares a few words about the album, including the meaning behind the chosen title. [7]

With a track list of eleven songs, the album revolves around a style of hybrid electronica with acoustic elements and slight influences from rock music. Some songs lean more towards one direction than the other, where for instance "Like" and "Ave Maria" are more based around electronic sounds, while "After" and "What It's Like" are significantly characterised by electric guitar and acoustic percussion instruments. At the same time, the album was also written with an intent to maintain a sense of overall coherency, keeping the selection of instruments consistent between the tracks. [8] Mavie's vocal performances permeate throughout the album with emotive and soulful lyrics, colouring each track with varying levels of vocal harmonics, also reflecting upon Mavie's choral background and love for harmonization. In addition to the standard physical and digital formats, You Once Told Me was also released as an exclusive iTunes LP Deluxe Version. [1] In addition to the content presented with the physical pressing, the interactive version also featured bonus material, including the original version of "Summer Calling"; the Gabriel & Dresden remix of "Beautiful Things"; six additional remixes taken from the three promotional singles, including an exclusive remix of "Promises" by Jaytech; the three music videos from the respective singles; exclusive artwork; and photos from the making of the different music videos. Aside from the Deluxe Version, additional bonus tracks were also offered with the digital release from select retailers. For the Beatport release, two additional remixes of "Promises" by Jaytech and Maor Levi were added as bonus tracks. [11] Alternatively, Amazon.com offered three of the bonus tracks from the Deluxe Version, including KOAN Sound's remix of "Promises", Rido's remix of "Much Too Much", and Stratus' remix of "Turn Up the Sound". Andain was a San Francisco-based electronic music duo, originally formed in 2000. They broke through in 2002 after being discovered by DJ Tiësto, reaching clubbers worldwide with their singles "Summer Calling" in 2002 and "Beautiful Things" in 2003. The band members initially included producer Josh Gabriel, singer and songwriter Mavie Marcos, and guitarist David Penner, before the group disbanded in 2006. Andain returned again in 2011 as Josh and Mavie, making their comeback with the single "Promises". The successive year saw the release of the band's first and only full-length album, on September 12, 2012, following a year of touring and performing. Andain was eventually concluded in 2014.
"Beautiful Things" is the second release by Andain. It first appeared on Tiësto's compilation album Nyana, released May 6, 2003, and was later published as a single via Black Hole, on October 27, 2003.
Gabriel & Dresden is an American electronic music duo comprising Josh Gabriel and Dave Dresden, formed in San Francisco, California. They collaborated from 2001 to 2008, then again from 2011 to the present. During that time, they have created numerous hit songs and remixes, some of which are considered classics. They won the coveted Winter Music Conference IDMA award for "Best American DJ" twice, in 2007 and 2008, the latter time on the same day that the group split up. The pair reunited in early 2011 and proceeded on a reunion tour, which began at Ruby Skye in San Francisco on March 4, 2011. They produced three studio albums together: self-titled album (2006), The Only Road (2017) which was released after an 11-year hiatus period, and Remedy (2020).

Best known for her international singles with German producer André Tanneberger and for her work with British producer Don Jackson, Matt Darey, and Cosmic Gate. Lacey is the performer with the highest number of officially released collaborations within the EDM genres so far.
Josh Gabriel is an American electronic dance music DJ and producer, most known for his collaborative partnership Gabriel & Dresden with Dave Dresden.
Kissy Sell Out is a British/Canadian DJ, producer, graphic designer, label manager of San City High Records and Stepper Man, part-time astrophysicist and science columnist for Sick Chirpse. Kissy Sell Out gained notability in 2006 for his electro music productions and energetic DJ style. In 2009 Mixmag described him as "one of the most exciting, charismatic and entertaining DJs of the decade".
Dash Berlin is a Dutch electronic music group started in 2007 in The Hague by Eelke Kalberg and Sebastiaan Molijn. Dash Berlin were voted the seventh most popular DJs in the world according to DJ Mag in 2012; Kalberg and Molijn were record producers. Kalberg and Molijn left the group in 2019 and returned in 2021 after winning a legal dispute against Jeffrey Sutorius over the "Dash Berlin" trademark. Since 2022 Ryan Fieret is the frontman of the group.
Betsie Larkin is an American vocalist, songwriter and guest writer/vocalist based in San Francisco, California, United States. Her first EDM collaborations with Ferry Corsten, "Made of Love" and "Feel You", appeared on Corsten's album Twice in a Blue Moon. Soon after its release, the single "Made of Love" made the top 40 in the Netherlands. In 2008 it was voted the fifth track overall on Armin Van Buuren's radio program A State of Trance, number one on Above and Beyond Group Therapy Radio, and reached the number one position on Corsten's Countdown's 100th episode. "Made of Love" was the second single and the first vocal track to be released from the Twice In A Blue Moon album. There is also an official video. Larkin joined Corsten as his tour kicked off in Malaysia and has joined him for numerous shows all over the globe.
Mavie Marcos is an American singer and songwriter. As part of Andain, Mavie has written songs in partnership with Josh Gabriel since 2001, better known for their early singles "Summer Calling" (2002) and "Beautiful Things" (2003), and the 2012 debut album You Once Told Me. As of July 10, 2014, Mavie has also signed with Black Hole to start off the production of a solo album.
John Foxx and the Maths is a musical project featuring electronic music pioneer John Foxx, Benge and more recently Hannah Peel. The group specialises in the use of analogue synthesizers and drum machines. It was initially a studio based project working from Benge's studio in Shoreditch, London but has also engaged in live work.
"Promises" is the third single from Andain, and remarks a comeback after eight years since their previous release. It's also the first promotional single taken from the duo's debut album, You Once Told Me.
"Much Too Much" is the fourth release from electronica duo Andain, and the second promotional single taken from the subsequent studio album, You Once Told Me.
"Turn Up the Sound" is the fifth release from Andain, marking the third and last promotional single prior to the duo's debut album, You Once Told Me.
