Isfahan is a major city in the Central District of Isfahan County,Isfahan province,Iran. It is the capital of the province,the county,and the district. It is located 440 kilometres south of Tehran. The city has a population of approximately 2,220,000,making it the third-most populous city in Iran,after Tehran and Mashhad,and the second-largest metropolitan area.
Vahid Asghari,is an Iranian political prisoner,advocate for freedom of expression and a women’s rights activist. He was detained by a group of Islamic Republic Guards Corps (IRGC) commandos on May 8,2008,on his way to the Imam Khomeini International Airport,because of his human rights activities and held in solitary confinement for two years without trial. He was sentenced to death twice by the chairman of the 15th Chamber of the Islamic Revolutionary Court,Judge Abolqassem Salavati,in 2011 and 2012,without participating in the court proceedings and without the freedom to choose his own lawyer. International human rights organizations are following Asghari’s case as he remains in custody.
Order of Courage or Bravery is an Iranian state general order established by "The Council of Iran Ministers" on November 21,1990. The order has three classes. According to Article 14 of the Regulations on the Awarding of Government Orders of Iran,the Order of Courage awarded by President of Iran to recognize "courage,a high class characteristic of human in achieving distinguished success" in one of the following:
- Volunteer to accomplish a difficult task which is critical for the country
- Accepting a serious state mission or a social duty that is accompanied by potential threats
- Opportune use of physical power and skills to reach a high goal
All young men who reach the age of 18 must spend about two years of compulsory military service in the Iranian army or the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
