Ungdom mot EU (Youth against the EU) is the youth organization of Nei til EU, opposing a future Norwegian membership of and adaption to the European Union (EU). Their main arguments against a Norwegian membership of the EU are democracy, environmental concerns and solidarity, claiming that the EU undermines democratic processes, damages the environment and is a hindrance for the economic growth of developing countries. [1]

Kristen Nygaard Computer scientist, mathematician

Kristen Nygaard was a Norwegian computer scientist, programming language pioneer, and politician. Youth against the EU

Youth Against the EU is the youth wing of the People's Movement against the EU.

Natur og Ungdom (NU) which translates Nature and Youth, also known in English as Young Friends of the Earth Norway, is a Norwegian youth environment protecting organisation. It is the only environmentalist youth organisation in Norway. 7,000 members, in 80 local groups, work on environmental issues all throughout the country. Officially, NU is the youth branch of the Norwegian Society for the Conservation of Nature. The organisation is led by Gaute Eiterjord.

Norway–European Union relations

Norway is not a member state of the European Union (EU). However, it is associated with the Union through its membership of the European Economic Area (EEA), signed in 1992 and established in 1994. Norway was a founding member of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) in 1960, which was originally set up as an alternative to the European Economic Community (EEC), the main predecessor of the EU. Norway had considered joining both the EEC and the European Union, but opted to decline following referendums in 1972 and 1994. According to the European Social Survey conducted in 2018, 73.6% of Norwegians would vote 'No' in a Referendum to join the European Union. Norway has two land borders with EU member states: Finland and Sweden.

JEF Norway

JEF Norway is the Norwegian chapter of Young European Federalists. It has 1,300 members, and consists of the national board (landsstyret), the executive board (sentralstyret), regional chapters and local chapters.

Lars Haltbrekken

Lars Haltbrekken is a Norwegian environmentalist and was elected to the Parliament of Norway in 2017 for the Socialist Left Party (Norway). He was chairman of Friends of the Earth Norway from 2005 to 2016 after having been deputy chairman from 2003 to 2005. Haltbrekken was also chairman of Natur og Ungdom in 1995 and 1996. In between the two leaderships he worked primarily trying to prevent natural gas power plants in Norway, and was chairman of Fellesaksjonen mot gasskraftverk. He grew up in Trondheim.

Audun Lysbakken Norwegian politician

Audun Bjørlo Lysbakken is a Norwegian politician and the current leader of the Norwegian Socialist Left Party. His career in national politics began when he was elected to the Norwegian parliament in 2001. In 2006, he became deputy leader of The Socialist Left Party. He held the post as Minister of Children and Equality in Jens Stoltenberg's second government from October 2009 to March 2012, when he resigned due to a conflict of interest. Under his leadership, the Socialist party has had strong gains in its vote share in Parliamentary elections and membership.

The Norwegian Society for the Conservation of Nature, also known as Friends of the Earth Norway, is one of the largest Norwegian environmental organisations with approximately 24,000 members. The organisation is based on a volunteer work among the members, constituting work both at local and national levels. Norges Naturvernforbund works within a large range of environmental areas. The organisation is affiliated with Friends of the Earth, and member of INFORSE-Europe.

Fellesaksjonen mot gasskraftverk is a former environmental organisation that functioned as a binding between various NGOs who were opposed to the construction of fossile gas thermal power plants in Norway. It was created in all secrecy in 1997 and was able to collect about 3,000 people willing to use civil disobedience to hinder the construction, before going public to announce this resistance. The organization was disestablished in 2002.

Sosialdemokrater mot EU was a Norwegian interest organization which opposed a future Norwegian membership in the European Union, coupled with a Social Democrat ideology. It was special in that the Social Democrat Norwegian Labour Party, spearheaded by Prime Minister Gro Harlem Brundtland, strongly supported such a membership. Sosialdemokrater mot EU was active in 1993 and 1994, around the 1994 Norwegian European Union membership referendum where a majority rejected the membership.

The European Alliance of EU-critical Movements or TEAM is a cooperation between Eurosceptic or EU-critical associations in various countries of Europe, including both non-partisan associations and political parties.

Åsmund Grøver Aukrust Norwegian politician

Åsmund Grøver Aukrust is a Norwegian politician for the Labour Party. He is member of Parliament from Akershus county, first elected at the Norwegian parliament election in 2013. He was the deputy leader of the Workers' Youth League (AUF) from 2010 to 2014. He was also deputy member of the Parliament of Norway for the term 2009–2013.

The Norwegian Peace Council is the largest peace organisation in Norway. It is an umbrella organisation of 20 non-governmental organisations concerned with peace. It was founded on 25 October 1945 by seven NGOs.
