Kenzaburō Ōe was a Japanese writer and a major figure in contemporary Japanese literature. His novels, short stories and essays, strongly influenced by French and American literature and literary theory, deal with political, social and philosophical issues, including nuclear weapons, nuclear power, social non-conformism, and existentialism. Ōe was awarded the 1994 Nobel Prize in Literature for creating "an imagined world, where life and myth condense to form a disconcerting picture of the human predicament today".
Blue Gender is a Japanese anime television series created by Ryōsuke Takahashi, the creator of Armored Trooper Votoms and Gasaraki, broadcast in Japan from 1999 to 2000 and spanning 26 episodes. Blue Gender was animated by the Japanese studio AIC and distributed in the United States by Funimation - one of the company's first non-Dragon Ball licenses. In 2003, Blue Gender was released on American television as part of Cartoon Network's Adult Swim block, though it had originally been planned for a Toonami broadcast, and was thus edited to remove more of its graphic violence, nudity, and sex scenes than usual, even for Adult Swim's standards. However, it aired uncut on the Funimation Channel in the United States.

Masuda Kōsuke Gekijō: Gag Manga Biyori, or simply known as Gag Manga Biyori, is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Kosuke Masuda. It started in Shueisha's shōnen manga magazine Monthly Shōnen Jump in the January 2000 issue. The magazine ceased publication in June 2007, and the series was transferred to the then-brand new magazine Jump Square in November of the same year, where it was published until November 2014. Shueisha collected its chapters in fifteen tankōbon volumes. The manga continued in Jump Square, under the title Gag Manga Biyori GB, in December 2014. Gag Manga Biyori features a hyperactive, random, and nonsensical style that revolves around various plots and characters throughout. Its first anime adaptation was a short film animated by Toei as part of Jump Festa in 2002. The first anime series and the sequel were produced by Artland, while the third and fourth sequel were produced by Studio Deen, selecting stories from the manga. Most episodes are five minutes long.

Jujutsu Kaisen is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Gege Akutami. It was serialized in Shueisha's shōnen manga magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump from March 2018 to September 2024, with its chapters collected in 28 tankōbon volumes as of October 2024. The story follows high school student Yuji Itadori as he joins a secret organization of Jujutsu Sorcerers to eliminate a powerful Curse named Ryomen Sukuna, of whom Yuji becomes the host. Jujutsu Kaisen is a sequel to Akutami's Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical School, serialized in Shueisha's Jump Giga from April to July 2017, later collected in a tankōbon volume, retroactively titled as Jujutsu Kaisen 0, in December 2018.
