Activity
During its work, the Foundation has implemented and supported a number of educational and artistic projects, conducted research, awareness raising campaigns and grant competitions. It cooperates with Ukrainian Catholic University, [2] Ukrainian Cultural Foundation [3] and Kyiv School of Economics. [4] According to open reports, over the years of its operation, the Foundation has invested more than UAH 80 million in charity and cultural development. [5]
International cooperation
The Foundation cooperates with Candid, [6] an American organization that disseminates information about benefactors and beneficiaries from around the world. [7] Namely, Zagoriy Foundation grants are displayed on Foundation Maps. [8] Thanks to cooperation with international media focusing on philanthropy, in particular, Alliance Magazine [9] and Philanthropy News Digest, [10] the Foundation regularly creates and publishes up-to-date analytical materials.

Research
The Foundation commissions sociological research of the non-profit sector in Ukraine. The major study of the Foundation is Charity through the Eyes of Ukrainians – it was conducted twice: in 2019 [14] [Research 1] and 2021. [Research 2]
Also, at the Foundation's initiative, research was conducted on «Charity in the Context of Coronavirus [15] [Research 3] », «Trust in Charitable Organizations [16] [Research 4] » and «Needs and Work of NGOs during the War [17] [Research 5] ».
Thanks to the partnership with CAF and the IU Lilly Family School of Philanthropy, the Foundation has the rights to translate international research in the field of philanthropy into Ukrainian, which it publishes on its website. [18]
Grant-making activity
Since 2020, the Foundation has been conducting open grant competitions [19] [20] and accepting out-of-competition proposals. In its grant support, the Foundation focuses on the projects aimed at developing the culture of charitable giving in Ukraine. Throughout 2020–2022, a total of 75 projects were supported total worth of about UAH 12 million (as of July 2022). [5]
As part of the grant support of the Foundation, programs such as Leaders of Ukrainian Charity, [21] educational programs aimed at creating certain conditions [22] for children and adults with autism, [23] as well as a program to support non-governmental organizations during the war [24] were implemented.
Educational projects
Charity Match
In 2021, Zagoriy Foundation launched a training program [25] for professionals of non-profit organizations. The goal of the program is to teach organizations to create more effective fundraising campaigns, to learn more about organizing the work processes, building partnerships, communication and reporting.
School of rehabilitation medicine
Throughout 2016–2019, the Foundation supported free trainings, open lectures and educational conferences on rehabilitation medicine and modern methods of rehabilitation care [26] that were conducted on the basis of the Ukrainian Catholic University. A total of over 1,000 participants received training. [27]
Entrepreneurial activity for the veterans of ATO and JFO
Throughout 2018–2020, in cooperation with Kyiv School of Economics, a training program on the basics of entrepreneurship was created for the veterans of ATO and JFO. [28] In total, four waves of training were provided for more than 100 participants who implemented more than 50 projects. [29]
MeeTheFuture
In 2018, a lecture series was launched to introduce Ukrainians to the new and current global trend setters. [30] So far, the following figures have come to Ukraine with lectures: Naim Zafar, Professor of the Business School of the University of California, Berkeley; political activist and member of the Army of Lovers band Alexander Bard; British composer and artist “considered the world’s first cyborg", Neil Harbisson; American writer and author of the book New Power Jeremy Heimans.
Other projects
Giving Tuesday Ukraine
Giving Tuesday is an international movement of good deeds designed to unite people around charity. In 2018, Kateryna Zagoriy became one of the initiators of the project of the global movement #GivingTuesday in Ukraine, which first started on November 27, 2018. Giving Tuesday promotes the idea that good deeds can be done in different ways – by sharing somebody's time, talent, money or information.
In 2021, the Foundation launched the first charity media in Ukraine [31] – Media of Great Stories. [32] The resource talks about trends and news in charity, the work of the third sector, and also publishes interviews with experts and updates on ongoing projects.
The Foundation runs information campaigns, aiming at telling more about charity, destroy myths around it, and promote the culture of charitable giving. Examples include the campaign «Who Is Behind This?» [34] – a series of monuments to prominent patrons of Kyiv (Halshka Hulevychivna, Nikolai von Bunge and others), as well as the installation «Break the Ice of Prejudice». [35]
In addition, many art projects were sponsored, such as Pavlo Gudimov's exhibition «Angels» [36] or the animated series «History of Those Who Care» [37] which tells about the lives of prominent Ukrainian patrons.
Activities during the Russian invasion to Ukraine
After the full-scale invasion of the Russian army on the territory of Ukraine, Zagoriy Foundation adapted its activities to address ongoing problems. [38] Currently, the Foundation is developing four major areas of work:
- Development and coordination of the charity sector in Ukraine;
- Support of grantees and partners for more effective work;
- Creation and distribution of useful materials about philanthropy in Ukraine;
- International cooperation.
During the war, the Foundation conducted a grant competition to support non-profit organization [24] and a study on the needs of such organization. [17] In addition, a second Charity Match [25] training course was held, supplemented with wartime work-oriented materials.
DTEK is the largest private investor in the energy industry in Ukraine. The company's enterprises generate electricity at solar, wind and thermal power plants; extract coal and natural gas, trade energy products in the Ukrainian and foreign markets, distribute and supply electricity to consumers, and develop a grid of supercharger stations for e-vehicles.
Serhiy Dmytrovych Prytula is a Ukrainian public and political figure, who gained his popularity as a TV presenter and actor. Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine he has founded Prytula Charity Foundation and focused on fundraising money for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. His most successful fundraising campaign was People's Bayraktar, which resulted in donations to purchase Baykar Bayraktar TB2 UAVs and also a reconnaissance satellite for Ukraine.
The Russo-Ukrainian War gave rise to a civil volunteer movement which provides diverse support to Ukrainian soldiers fighting in Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts.
Glib Zagoriy, is a Ukrainian businessman, scholar. He is a co-owner of the PrJSC Pharmaceutical company "Darnitsa". He was a member of the Ukrainian Parliament of the 8th convocation (2014—2019).
Reasonable Force is a Ukrainian political party, founded on 22 January 2016. It is led by Alexander Solovyov. The party consists of 26 regional and more than 600 local organizations. The members of the party are more than 20,000 citizens of Ukraine. It is represented in 16 local councils based on the results of the elections, held in December 2016 and April 2017.
Biopharma is the Ukrainian pharmaceutical company focused on the development and production of drugs based on human plasma.
EdCamp Ukraine is a movement of educators in Ukraine. It is based on the principles of the worldwide EdCamp movement, which originated in the United States. Ukraine was the third country in Europe and the ninth in the world to join the original movement in 2014. As of 2020, EdCamp Ukraine is the second biggest EdCamp community in the world, and the biggest community of educators in Ukraine.
Ukraїner is an educational, multimedia Ukrainian studies project, the materials of which are based on the results of socio-cultural expeditions.
Nataliia Mykolaivna Moseichuk is a Ukrainian journalist, host of the 1+1 talk show Right to Power, and curator of the social projects Right to Education, School of Superheroes, and the Global Teacher Prize Ukraine.
People's Bayraktar was a series of fund-raising projects for the purchase of the Turkish Bayraktar TB2 drones for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Olena Viktorivna Mokrenchuk is a Ukrainian journalist, writer, historian, teacher, participant of the Revolution of Dignity. With the beginning of the Russian-Ukrainian war, she was a volunteer, a military representative, a Major of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Member of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine and National Writers Union of Ukraine.
Jooble, stylized as JOOBLE is an international job aggregator and job posting search engine founded in 2006.
Tabletochki Charity Foundation is a Ukrainian non-profit organization helping children with oncological and hematological diseases.
Serhiy Prytula Charity Foundation is a Ukrainian charitable organization that specializes in helping the Ukrainian Defense Forces and civilians affected by the Russian-Ukrainian war. It is engaged in the purchase and supply of vehicles, unmanned aerial vehicles, thermal imagers, radios, equipment, mobile healthcare, module housing, school shelters, humanitarian demining and medicines.
Anastasiia Serhiivna Blyshchyk is a Ukrainian journalist, a servicewoman of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, a junior lieutenant of the 47th Separate Mechanized Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, a participant in the Russian-Ukrainian war. Member of the Women's Veterans Movement (2022).
Fedir Serdiuk is a Ukrainian entrepreneur focused on solving safety challenges, currently involved in Ukrainian defence against Russian aggression, emergency responder expert. He is a co-founder of PULSE, a charity focused on developing of Tactical Combat Casualty Care in Ukraine, and FAST, a leading first aid training provider in Ukraine.
Akim Alfadovych Galimov is a Ukrainian journalist, screenwriter, producer, author of documentary and historical projects.
Future for Ukraine Charity Foundation is a charity established in the early spring 2022 in Warsaw, with a second office in Kyiv. The funds work on the principle of crowdfunding and raise funds for charitable assistance in four areas: medicine, psychological help for women, assistance to children, and humanitarian aid.
Favbet Foundation is a one of the largest charitable foundations in Ukraine, founded in 2020 to develop sports and educational infrastructure for Ukrainian children. Since Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022, the charity focused on the help to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Territorial Defense Forces and humanitarian aid for citizens affected by the Russian-Ukrainian War.
The All-Ukrainian mental health program "How are you?" is an initiative aimed at building a quality system of providing services in the field of psychosocial support and developing a culture of mental health care. The initiative was launched by Olena Zelenska, the First Lady of Ukraine, in May 2022.
