Zakir Hossain Sarkar (born 4 August 1960) [1] is a Bangladeshi politician. He is a former Jatiya Sangsad member representing the Rangpur-5 constituency as an independent candidate in 2024.[ citation needed ]
Sarkar was an aspirant for Awami League to vie for the national election from Rangpur-5 constituency but failed to secure party ticket. Then he decided to contest independently. His candidancy was declared illegal but he got back his candidature through an appeal with the Bangladesh Election Commission. [2] Previously he served as chairman of Mithapukur Upazila Parishad of Rangpur twice. [3] He resigned from this post on 28 November 2023 to contest on the general election. [4]

The Haribhanga mango is a mango cultivar produced in the northwest part of Bangladesh,especially in the Rangpur district. Cultivation of the Haribhanga mango has recently gained popularity among the farmers of northern districts. Locally called Haribhanga,these mangoes are round in shape. Haribhanga is highly fleshy and typically weighs 200 to 400 grams. They have been recorded weighing up to 700 grams. In July 2021,India received 2600 kilos of Haribhanga mangoes from Bangladesh as a memento of friendship between the two neighbouring countries. It was sent through the Petrapole border of Bangaon in West Bengal.
