ZaniMichelle Chiumia [1] (born 6 June 1993) is a Malawian artist, actress, model and former TV presenter. [2] [3] She gained international recognition in music when she collaborated with a Nigerian reggae-dancehall singer and songwriter, Patoranking, on a song called "Single Tonight" [4] released in 2016. Chiumia was one of the eight selected entertainers by the International Central Working Committee (ICWC) for the forthcoming projects that were scheduled in March 2017 in Nigeria. [1] In 2018, she was nominated for best female new comer in 2016 African Music Industry Awards (AMIA) Afrika – People’s Choice awards. [7] [8] [9] [10] [11] She was the only nominee from Malawi. [12] In 2017, she was nominated for her 2017 song Chikondi Chako (your love). Chiumia is the only Malawian artist appearing in the rest of the 32 award categories. Background

Early life

Chiumia was born on 6 June in 1993 in Nkhata Bay district in Malawi to Tumbuka parents. [20] [21] She is a Tumbuka by tribe. [21]

Music

Chiumia collaborated on single called “Single Tonight” that was spotted acting in the few movies she has done abroad. She revealed that ICWC took interest in her when she was acting for the drama series “The Dragons”. [1]

John Nyanga was a Malawian comedian and actor better known by his stage name as Izeki. He rose to fame after associating with Kwathu Drama Group in which he was in the part of the duo ‘Izeki ndi Jacobo’. He was also a pastor at Synagogue of Hope Church in Blantyre. He died in 2016 on Sunday at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH) in Blantyre after a long illness. He partnered with Eric Mabedi in Izeki ndi Jakobo plays.

Eric Mabedi was a Malawian comedian and actor better known by his stage name as Jakobo. He gained national recognition after associating with Kwathu Drama Group in which he was in the part of the duo ‘Izeki ndi Jacobo’. He died on Monday, 2 August 2021, at Mwaiwathu Private Hospital in Blantyre due to COVID-19. He partnered with John Nyanga in Izeki ndi Jakobo plays. He came from Thumbwe village in Chiradzulu district. He was also associated with Bon Kalindo who is popularly known as Winiko.

Kelvin Khuzumba popularly known as Nesnes is a Malawian rnb artist and song writer. He became popular after releasing songs such as Chidodo and It’s not fair in early 2010s. The Great Angels Choir is a CCAP gospel musical group from Lilongwe, Malawi. In 2016, the choir shared a stage with American singer, Don Moen. In 2023, it was rumoured that the choir was spliting to which it publicly denied. In September 2023, the choir collaborated with South Africa's Rebecca Malope in performance at the Blessings Gospel Concert at BICC in Lilongwe and other artists. Kwathu Drama Group is a Malawian oldest drama group mainly composed of Eric Mabedi and John Nyanga, who died in 2021, that started in 1980. Mabedi died in 2022 after suffering from severe kidney damage. Chiku Malinga Chitsundi Banda, best known as Malinga Mafia, is a Malawian dancehall artist and songwriter. In 2018, he won a Nyasa Music Award as Best Dancehall artist of the year. His collaboration with Hyphen titled Tsidya lina won the Best collaboration of the year 2018. In 2017, he won the Best Music Video in Nyasa Music Awards.
