Zarf is the annual college fest which was first started in the year 2011 [1] organized by the students of Zakir Husain College Of Engineering and Technology which comes under Aligarh Muslim University stationed at Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh [2] . It is the largest annual Cultural, Literary and Technical festival of students in Aligarh Muslim University [3] .

Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) is an Indian public central university. It was originally established by Sir Syed Ahmad Khan as Mohammedan Anglo-Oriental College in 1875. The College became Aligarh Muslim University in 1920. The main campus of AMU is located in the city of Aligarh. It has its three off-campus centres at Malappuram (Kerala), Murshidabad and Kishanganj (Bihar). The university is an Institute of National Importance provided under the Seventh Schedule of the Constitution at its commencement.

Uttar Pradesh State in India

Uttar Pradesh is a state in northern India. With over 200 million inhabitants, it is the most populous state in India as well as the most populous country subdivision in the world. It was created on 1 April 1937 as the United Provinces of Agra and Oudh during British rule, and was renamed Uttar Pradesh in 1950. The state is divided into 18 divisions and 75 districts with the capital being Lucknow. The main ethnic group is the Hindavi people, forming the demographic plurality. On 9 November 2000, a new state, Uttarakhand, was carved out from the state's Himalayan hill region. The two major rivers of the state, the Ganga and Yamuna, join at Allahabad (Prayagraj) and then flow as the Ganga further east. Hindi is the most widely spoken language and is also the official language of the state.

History of ZARF

ZHCET was founded in the year 1935 and was named after the third president of India, Zakir Husain. ZARF is derived from the Urdu language which when translated to English language means capability or ingenuity [4] . It was first held in the year 2011 [5] . The various events of the fest were spread over the period of three days. The organizing head, that is, the Convener of ZARF was Ibadur Rehman [6] with Mr taj as the principal of the ZHCET and the then Vice Chancellor of AMU, P. K. Abdul Aziz. The result of the work carried out by the students made ZARF got its authenticity and from then it was held every year in the month of February and March.

P. K. Abdul Aziz scientist

P.K. Abdul Aziz, also known as P. K. Abdul Azis, is a scientist in Ecology and Biodiversity and an academic from India who has published 77 research papers,. He has been the Vice-Chancellor of Cochin University of Science and Technology and Aligarh Muslim University. He is also the former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya. He is also the chairman of the Expert Committee for Revision of Curriculum for School Education, appointed by the Kerala government.

Events Held at ZARF

A large number of events are held at ZARF in the different sections i.e., Technical, Cultural, Literary and Sports.

Technical Events

Being the fest of a reputed engineering college, ZARF organizes a number of technical events for the technical personals and sets new standard for technical fiesta.

Hackathon

One of the most thrilling and participated technical events of any college fest is the Hackathon. In Zarf 2019, Hackathon will be conducted for the first time in Aligarh Muslim University. All those competitive Programmer will get an opportunity to be a part of a computer marathon which lasts for about 12 hours [7] .

Programmer person who writes computer software

A programmer, developer ("dev"), coder, or software engineer is a person who creates computer software. The term computer programmer can refer to a specialist in one area of computers, or to a generalist who writes code for many kinds of software. One who practices, or professes, a formal approach to programming may also be known as a programmer analyst. On the other hand, "code monkey" is a derogatory term for a programmer who simply writes code without any involvement in the design or specifications.

Literary Events

ZARF's literary events are a platform for the students to display their literary as well as the intellectual side of theirs.

General Quiz

In the era of social media, where everyone seems to be updated with software’s, are the minds of the students updated with the current status of the nation and world? To create this awareness we organize a General Quiz, which consists of questions from all fields of life and current affairs. [8]

Entertainment Quiz

Quizzes could always be not be related to the educational side,so for the binge watchers, Zarf conducts one of the finest entertainment quizzes where the questions are related to the world of entertainment, that is the various Hollywood and Bollywood shows and movies ranging from F.R.I.E.N.D.S. to the lunchbox. Consisting of several rounds, entertainment quizzes are one of the most enjoyable and fun quizzes. [9]

Cultural Events

ZARF also aims for the refreshment of the students who are immersed in the respective courses round the clock, so it host some fun events too.

Khiladhi Khatro Ke

“Pain in Spain”, “Darr ka Blockbuster”, “Jigar pe Trigger”. Everyone is familiar with these lines and their origin. The very popular TV show “Khatron ke Khiladi” is replicated to some extent at ZARF, which sends out an invitation to all the daring folks to participate in the challenges. [10]

ALIG Got Talent

At Zarf a platform is encapsulated on a district level under the name “Alig Got Talent” which allows the people to step up and perform in front of the masses. The participants show their special abilities to impress the jury and qualify for the next round until the finals. [11]

Sports Events

ZARF events are not only for the tech geeks and literary personals. For the sports persons, ZARF organizes a number of sports competitions in which students of different branches compete against each other and even to bridge the gap between the teachers and students, a cricket match is played in which the students are represented by the coordinators of ZARF [12] . Moto of Zarf

The theme of the fest is called to be Charity. 50% of the registration fee and 20% of the sponsored amount is donated through proper channel for the welfare of people. They promote the idea of quintessential movement, that is Women Empowerment, according to the 2018 statistics, around half of the partakers, that is around 45% were the female students who were enrolled in a number of departments of the university [13]

Under the Peepal Tree

Under the Peepal Tree (UTPT) is the annual quiz fest organized by RV QuizCorp, the quiz club of RVCE, Bangalore. The year 2018 will witness the 20th edition of this famed quizzing festival after the tremendous response to the previous edition which saw a footfall of more than 2500.

Pearl (cultural festival) official National Annual Cultural Festival of BITS Pilani, Hyderabad Campus

Pearl is the annual national cultural fest of BITS Pilani, Hyderabad Campus. Initially introduced in 2009 as an intra-college festival, a year after the foundation of BITS Pilani, Hyderabad, the fest grew into a national level college cultural fest with participation from more than 50 colleges across India with footfall around 8000. Pearl hosts a variety of cultural events and competitions which include music, dance, literary, photography and quizzing. Filmsaaz is an international short film festival begun in 2008 by the University Film Club, Aligarh Muslim University. Until the fifth edition of the festival in 2012, it was a national-level competition, but beginning with the sixth edition in 2013, the festival was opened to international entries. Since its inception, the university's Kennedy Auditorium has been used as the festival's screening venue.

Birla Institute of Technology, Jaipur is an educational centre offering undergraduate and postgraduate courses located in Jaipur, Rajasthan, India. ATMOS (festival)

ATMOS is the annual techno-management festival of BITS Pilani, Hyderabad Campus, located in Hyderabad, India. It is known for a wide range of events, such as workshops, quizzes, lectures, technical exhibitions and competitions. Among the notable events conducted annually during it are the national level quiz Enigma and BITS MUN Hyderabad. Started in 2012, ATMOS aims at improving the technical culture among Indian colleges as well as providing a platform to showcase their abilities. In its sixth year now, ATMOS is growing rapidly with participation from students, academicians, entrepreneurs and speakers from all over India.

The Faculty of Law, Aligarh Muslim University is the law school of the Aligarh Muslim University which has a history of over 100 years of teaching and writing law.

Riviera (festival) Annual sports and cultural festival

Riviera is the Annual International Sports and Cultural Carnival of the Vellore Institute of Technology. It is an International 4-day event that consists of sports competitions, social and cultural events along with concerts.The 2016 edition of Riviera witnessed a footfall of more than 30,000 students from over 650 colleges from across the country. It is organised primarily by the students of the college. It has a wide variety of competitions and events, which range from dramatic, literary, musical, dance, debate events all the way to informal events. It is usually held in the month of February every year.

AMU Literary Festival

AMU Literary Festival is an annual celebration of all the things from the vast world of literature by the Central University of India, Aligarh Muslim University. The Cultural Education Center(CEC) of AMU which embodies the multicultural and diverse spirit of the university, propitiates art and literature holding true to the envisioned nature of the university by its founder Sir Syed Ahmad Khan. The University Debating and Literary Club (UDLC) has been organizing this event for the past four years where CEC becomes the nexus of all the panels and speeches by illustrious names of journalism and literature. Some of the previous invitees include news anchor and author Rajdeep Sardesai, poet Keki N. Daruwalla, politician Mani Shankar Aiyar and independent journalist Rana Ayyub.
