Filmsaaz is an international short film festival that began in 2008 by the University Film Club, Aligarh Muslim University. [1] Until the fifth edition of the festival in 2012, it was a national-level competition, but beginning with the sixth edition in 2013, the festival was opened to international entries. [2] [3] Since its inception, the University's Kennedy Auditorium has been used as the festival's screening venue. [2]

History

The film club was established in the 1973–74 academic session. The proposal was mooted with the University Grants Commission that film societies be established with the universities in India which was accepted and thus the film club was the outcome of such a proposal. [4]

In 2013, after having conducted film workshop there, actor Adil Hussain was granted a lifetime membership in the university's film club. [5]

A short film festival- Filmsaaz was conceived and begun in 2008 by the then secretary Adil Hossain. In 2013, under the secretary-ship of Arif Jwadder the 6th edition of the festival become international in scope. When first established, the festival was organized as a national short film festival with national and local categories but with its sixth installation, local categories were removed. [6]

5Pitobash Tripathy2012Pitobash Tripathy was the chief guest at the 5th Filmsaaz or Filmsaaz 12 which was held from 19–21 March 2012. [15]
6th Nawazuddin Siddiqui 2013 Nawazuddin Siddiqui was the chief guest at the 6th Filmsaaz which was held from 3–5 March 2013 and gave the awards to the winners of the festival. From this edition it became international short film festival. The 6th Filmsaaz became controversial when the organizers allegedly put off screening a documentary based on the Kashmir conflict. 7th Tigmanshu Dhulia 2014Anuj Kumar(The Hindu), Anna M.M. Vetticad, Parvez Imam Tigmanshu Dhulia was the chief guest at the 7th Filmsaaz which was held from 9–12 March 2014. [1] [18] Film Critic Anuj Kumar(The Hindu), Anna M.M. Vetticad, Parvez Imam was the jury member of the festival. [19] [20] [21]
8th Ritesh Batra 2015 Zeishan Quadri Ritesh Batra was the chief guest at the 8th Filmsaaz which was held from 10–12 March 2015. [22] Piyush Mishra, Nimmi as guest of honor. [23] Zeishan Quadri was the chief jury at the festival. [23]
9th Nishikant Kamat 2016 Nishikant Kamat was the chief guest of 9th Filmsaaz. 9th Filmsaaz held from 14 to 16 March 2016. [24]

Syedna Tahir Saifuddin School, better known by its initials STS School, and by its former name Minto Circle, is a K–12 semi-residential high school under Aligarh Muslim University at Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, India. Established by Sir Syed Ahmad Khan as Muhammadan Anglo-Oriental Collegiate School in 1875, it later evolved as Aligarh Muslim University and is one of the five senior secondary schools run by the university.

Ritesh Batra is an Indian film director and screenwriter. Batra's Hindi-language debut feature film The Lunchbox premiered at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival and won the Rail d’Or. Batra also won the Toronto Film Critics Association Award for Best First Feature Film in 2014. The Lunchbox was the highest-grossing foreign film in North America, Europe and Australia for 2014 grossing over US$25 Million. The film was also nominated for a BAFTA Award for Best Film Not in the English Language in 2015.

Moinuddin Ahmad Art Gallery, Aligarh Muslim University is the art gallery of Aligarh Muslim University in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, India. It has been restored after 80 years.

Muslim University Riding Club (MURC) established as M.A.O. College riding school is a 130 year old club of the Aligarh Muslim University. The players of the club have also featured in the London magazine in 1974. MURC is the only riding club in a university in India. It also has a strong 19 member riding squad. The club is open for both the sexes.

The Aligarh Muslim University Students' Union (AMUSU) is the official Students' Union of the Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh, India. The Aligarh Muslim University Students' Union is the university-wide representative body for students and is autonomous in nature. It works according to their own Constitution written by Amin A. Bulbuliya. It is primarily responsible for building and preserving a healthy political culture and an atmosphere of open debates on the campus. Students are kept informed about the public meetings, discussions and other issues through pamphlets and notices.

Some of the previous invitees include news anchor and author Rajdeep Sardesai, poet Keki N. Daruwalla, politician Mani Shankar Aiyar and independent journalist Rana Ayyub.

It is involved in training and preparing students for various competitive activities like Moot Court, Legal debate, Quiz, Judgment writing etc. of the Faculty. It was founded in 1894 as a non-profit student organization. It has long traditional character which always uplifts the students' participation and performance in relation to legal affairs in different arena. The Dean, Faculty of Law, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh is the President of the Society.

Mohammad Mohibul Haque, or Muhibul Haque is a scholar and professor of international politics, Indian polity, minority rights and human rights at the Department of Political Science at Aligarh Muslim University. He was awarded President of India Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma Gold Medal for Excellence during his studies. He speaks English, Hindi, and Urdu languages. Haque is also a writer and author of articles, research papers, chapters in the edited books on socio-political issues. He has also authored a book. He has done research on the topic of The Rights of Minorities in India: The Role of the National Commission for Minorities.
