Zhivago Groenewald (born 8 June 1993) is a Namibian former cricketer. [1] He was initially selected as part of Namibia's squad for the 2015 ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier tournament, [2] but was replaced by Michau du Preez. [3]

Career

In October 2018, Groenewald was named in Namibia's squad in the Southern sub region group for the 2018–19 ICC World Twenty20 Africa Qualifier tournament in Botswana. [4] He was the joint-leading wicket-taker in the tournament, with fourteen dismissals in six matches. [5] In March 2019, he was named in Namibia's squad for the 2019 ICC World Cricket League Division Two tournament. [6]

In May 2019, he was named in Namibia's squad for the Regional Finals of the 2018–19 ICC T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier tournament in Uganda. [7] [8] Groenewald made his Twenty20 International (T20I) debut against Ghana on 20 May 2019. [9]

In June 2019, he was one of twenty-five cricketers to be named in Cricket Namibia's Elite Men's Squad ahead of the 2019–20 international season. [10] [11] In August 2019, he was named in Namibia's One Day International (ODI) squad for the 2019 United States Tri-Nation Series. [12] He made his ODI debut for Namibia, against the United States, on 17 September 2019. [13] On 20 September 2019, in the match against the United States, he took his first five-wicket haul in ODI cricket. [14] [15]

Later the same month, Groenewald was named in Namibia's squad for the 2019 ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier tournament in the United Arab Emirates. [16]

In 2021, Groenewald retired from cricket at the end of the home season in Namibia, following a knee injury. [17]

Johannes Jonathan Smit is a Namibian cricketer who made his senior debut for the Namibian national side in February 2012, aged 16.

Zane Edward Green is a Namibian cricketer who made his senior debut for the Namibian national side in September 2013, aged 16. He is a wicket-keeper and left-handed batsman.

The 2019 United States Tri-Nation Series was the second round of the 2019–2023 ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 cricket tournament and took place in the United States in September 2019. It was a tri-nation series between Namibia, Papua New Guinea and the United States cricket teams, with the matches played as One Day International (ODI) fixtures. The ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 formed part of the qualification pathway to the 2023 Cricket World Cup. It was the first One Day International series to be played in the USA.
