Zlatozar Boev (born 20 October 1955) is a Bulgarian ornithologist, paleontologist, and zoologist. He has published 345 papers and other material, in Bulgarian, English, French, and Russian. [1] He has classified 36 taxa. [2] Boev is part of the National Museum of Natural History, the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds, and the Bulgarian Ornithological Society. [3]

Kostinbrod is a town in western Bulgaria. It is the seat of Kostinbrod Municipality. It is located 15 km west of the capital city of Sofia. It is located on two important transport corridors: Lom — Sofia — Thessaloniki and Sofia — Belgrade. Varshets is a spa town in Montana Province, northwestern Bulgaria. It is the administrative centre of the homonymous Varshets Municipality. As of December 2019, its population is 5,444. The town is located on the northern slopes of the western part of the Balkan mountains in the small valley of the Botunya River, at 43°12′N23°17′E, 359 metres above sea level. It is one of the oldest resorts in northern Bulgaria, and is known for its mineral springs, mild mountain climate, and natural environment. The town's tourist infrastructure includes two spa centres, a polyclinic, several rest houses, hotels and also many private lodgings. Varshets has an art gallery, a municipal museum and an Eastern Orthodox church dedicated to Saint George.

Regulus bulgaricus is a fossil passerine from the Middle Villafranchian of Bulgaria. This bird is a member of the kinglet family and genus, and is the only fossil kinglet found so far. It is known from a single ulna, which is 13.3 mm long. The fossil was discovered in 1991 near Varshets, Bulgaria, and described by Zlatozar Boev.

Peter Dunoff, also known by his spiritual name Beinsa Douno, and often called the Master by his followers, was a Bulgarian philosopher and spiritual teacher who developed a form of Esoteric Christianity known as the Universal White Brotherhood. He is widely known in Bulgaria, where he was voted second by the public in the Great Bulgarians TV show on Bulgarian National Television (2006-2007). Dunoff is also featured in Pantev and Gavrilov's The 100 Most Influential Bulgarians in Our History. According to Petrov, Peter Deunov is “the most published Bulgarian author to this day.”

Lyuba Ognenova-Marinova was a pioneering Bulgarian archaeologist. She was the first underwater archaeologist in the country and headed the investigations of the ancient Thracian city of Nesebar. She became one of the leading Bulgarian researchers specializing in ancient and Thracian archeology, authoring over 100 scientific publications. She served on the faculty of Sofia University and as a senior researcher at the National Archaeological Museum in Sofia.

Magdalina Stancheva was a Bulgarian archaeologist and museologist, recognized for her dedication in preserving Sofia's past. As one of the first museologists in the country, she influenced and taught many the scientific principals of conservation. She worked with both the International Council of Museums and UNESCO to designate national preservation sites and was recognized by many awards for her efforts in conserving the cultural history of the country, including the Order of Saints Cyril and Methodius, the National Order Of Labour, and a citation as an Honorary Citizen of Sofia.

Nikolay Krumov Boev was a Bulgarian zoologist who worked at the National Museum of Natural History (Bulgaria) at Sofia. He specialized in ornithology, but also worked on mammals and was a pioneer of wildlife conservation in Bulgaria. He has been considered the father of modern ornithology and conservation in Bulgaria.

Pavel Atanasov Patev was a Bulgarian zoologist known for his work in ornithology and as the director of the Sofia Zoo. He wrote a major monograph on the Birds of Bulgaria (1950).

Velislav Boev is a Bulgarian footballer who plays as a defender for Spartak Varna.

Anser thraciensis is an extinct species of water bird belonging to the living genus Anser. It was first named by Burchak-Abramovich and Nikolov (1984) from Trojanovo, Bulgaria. They also named Phalacrocorax serdicensis in the publication, from the same locality. The National Museum of Natural History, Sofia notes that 17 specimens of this taxon are presently held in their collections, catalogued as NMNHS 1407-1420, 1622-1625, and 1650-1652.
