<span class="mw-page-title-main">Kenenisa Bekele</span> Ethiopian long-distance runner (born 1982)

Kenenisa Bekele Beyecha is an Ethiopian long-distance runner. He was the world record holder in both the 5000-metre and 10000-metre from 2004 (5,000m) and 2005 (10,000m) until 2020. He won the gold medal in both the 5000 m and 10,000 m events at the 2008 Summer Olympics. At the 2004 Olympics, he won the gold medal in the 10,000 m and the silver medal in the 5000 m.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Zersenay Tadese</span> Eritrean long-distance runner (born 1982)

Zersenay Tadese Habtesilase is a retired Eritrean long-distance track and road running athlete. He held the men's half marathon world record from 2010 to 2018. His bronze medal in the 10,000 metres at the 2004 Athens Olympics made him the first ever Eritrean Olympic medallist, and his 20-km title at the 2006 IAAF World Road Running Championships also made him the country's first athlete to win at a world championship event. He does not use a sprint finish to win races; his strategy relies on a combination of efficient running and fast pace setting.

Mungiki is a banned ethnic organisation in Kenya. The name means "a united people" or "multitude" in the Kikuyu language. The religion, which apparently originated in the late 1980s, is secretive and bears some similarity to mystery religions. Specifics of their origin and doctrines are unclear. What is clear is that they favour a return to indigenous African traditions.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Samuel Wanjiru</span> Kenyan long-distance runner

Samuel Kamau Wanjiru was a Kenyan long-distance runner who won the 2008 Beijing Olympics Marathon in an Olympic record time of 2:06:32; becoming the first Kenyan to win the Olympic gold in the marathon. He became the youngest gold medallist in the marathon since 1932.

Patrick Ndururi Kinaga was a Kenyan middle-distance runner who specialized in the 800 metres. On 13 August 1997 he ran a personal best of 1:42.62 minutes at the Weltklasse Zürich meeting. This time ranks him in the top twenty fastest people in history over this distance.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Martin Lel</span> Kenyan long-distance runner

Martin Kiptolo Lel is a Kenyan professional long distance and marathon runner. He won the London Marathon in 2005, 2007, and 2008, the New York City Marathon in 2003 and 2007 and the Great North Run in 2007 and 2009. His personal best time, as of April 2008, is 2:05:15, which he ran in the 2008 London Marathon setting a course record. Lel is coached by Claudio Berardelli and lives in the Rift Valley region of Kenya.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">FKF President's Cup</span> Football tournament

The FKF President's Cup is the top knockout tournament in Kenyan football. It was created in 1956, but during its existence the knockout tournament has had different names. It is the Kenyan equivalent to the FA Cup. In 2003 two different cup competition's were held in Kenya because the 4 semi-finalists of the President's Cup withdrew from the KFF and continued with their "Transparency Cup" while the KFF continued their tournament with already eliminated clubs. The 2020 edition was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic, just a year after Betway betting firm were announced as the title sponsors.

Luke Kibet Bowen is a Kenyan long-distance runner who specializes in the marathon. He won the marathon race at the 2007 World Championships.

Philes Moora Ongori is a Kenyan long-distance runner who competes in half marathon and marathon events.

The 10th Parliament of Kenya saw the National Assembly opened on 15 January 2008. This following the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) of Raila Odinga winning a majority in the 2007 parliamentary elections. Raila was a candidate in the presidential elections, which resulted in a controversial victory for Mwai Kibaki of the Party of National Unity. The opening of the parliament was fraught with jeers, cheers and brawls between the opposing parties; Mwai Kibaki was greeted by the ODM members with silence and boos, while Raila was greeted by PNU members with accusations of genocide.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Tsegaye Kebede</span> Ethiopian long-distance runner

Tsegaye Kebede Wordofa is an Ethiopian long-distance runner who competes in road running events, including marathons. He quickly rose to become a prominent distance runner after his international debut at the Amsterdam Marathon in 2007. In his second year of professional running, he won the Paris Marathon, the Fukuoka Marathon and won the marathon bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2009 Nakumatt supermarket fire</span> Deadly fire in downtown Nairobi, Kenya

The 2009 Nakumatt supermarket fire occurred when a supermarket in downtown Nairobi, Kenya, caught fire on 28 January 2009. Twenty-nine remains were located in the rubble of the destroyed Nakumatt supermarket, with police investigating a tip that security guards locked exit doors in an effort to prevent looting. However the locking of the doors on the ground floor had no effect on the victims, as they were all found on the floor above. The fire allegedly started near the only staircase accessible to the public, trapping the victims in the shop. One other man died after leaping from the building to escape the flames. Forty-seven people are still missing. The bodies of the dead are "charred beyond recognition".

Vincent Kipruto Limo is a Kenyan long distance runner who specialises in the marathon. He made his debut in the event in 2008 and won the Paris Marathon a year later. He then placed top three at the Chicago Marathon and the Rotterdam Marathon.

Joyce Chepkirui is a Kenyan long-distance runner who competes in road running events. She established herself as a half marathon runner, winning races in Granollers, Bogotá and Gothenburg. She set a best of 1:06:19 hours to win the 2014 Prague Half Marathon. She also competes in 10K road races and her personal best of 30:38 minutes makes her fifth fastest woman ever.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Mary Wacera Ngugi</span> Kenyan long-distance runner (born 1988)

Mary Wacera Ngugi is a Kenyan long-distance runner who competes in road running events. She holds personal bests of 66:29 minutes for the half marathon, 30:50 minutes for the 10K run, and 2:27:36 for the marathon.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Daniel Wanjiru</span> Kenyan long-distance runner

Daniel Kinyua Wanjiru is a Kenyan long-distance runner. He won both the 2016 Amsterdam Marathon and the 2017 London Marathon. His personal best time for the marathon is 2:05:21, set in Amsterdam in 2016.
