The 2017 FIA World Rallycross Championship presented by Monster Energy was the fourth season of the FIA World Rallycross Championship. The season consists of twelve rounds, started on 1 April with the Spanish round at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya and concluded on 12 November at the Killarney Motor Racing Complex in Cape Town, South Africa.
Johan Kristoffersson was the season's Driver's Champion, claiming it at the Neste World RX of Latvia. The Teams' Championship was won by PSRX Volkswagen Sweden.
On 17 October 2016 the provisional 2017 calendar was released. It once again contained twelve rounds; however the Argentine event was discontinued in favour of a new event in South Africa. [1] Half of the rounds were supported by the RX2 category—formerly known as RX Lites.

Mattias Ekström is a racing driver from Sweden. He competed in the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters for Audi from 2001 until his retirement in 2018, and has been competing in the FIA World Rallycross Championship, also for Audi, since its inception in 2014. He is a FIA World Rallycross Champion, a two-time DTM champion and a four-time winner of the Race of Champions.
Pontus Johan Tidemand is a Swedish rally and rallycross driver. He is the 2017 WRC-2 champion and a previous M-Sport and Škoda Motorsport driver. Pontus is the son of Swedish rally driver Tomas Tidemand and ex-rally co-driver Maud Solberg, nowadays the wife of Norwegian rally driver Henning Solberg.
The World RX of Portugal is a rallycross event held in Portugal that is part of the FIA World Rallycross Championship. The event made its debut in the championship's inaugural 2014 season, at the Pista Automóvel de Montalegre in the northern town of Montalegre, close to the Spanish border. It was removed from the series calendar ahead of the 2019 season, marking the first time in the championship's history that the event was not run. The event was set to return in 2020 but was later cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. On 12 May 2021; it was announced that the event would return in 2021 instead of the World RX of Norway as the final round of the calendar. For 2022 season Montalegre’s layout has been re-profiled, with the old joker lap now the first corner and a new, gravel joker from Turns Two to Five.
Andreas Bakkerud is a rallycross driver from Bergen, Norway. He has competed in the FIA Rallycross Supercar class since 2013 in both Euro RX and World RX, and Nitro Rallycross since 2021. He became European Champion in 2021.
Kenneth Timmy Hansen is a rallycross driver from Sweden. He won the 2019 FIA World Rallycross Championship in the FIA World Rallycross Championship, driving for Team Peugeot-Hansen. His father is the 14-times European Rallycross Champion Kenneth Hansen, his mother the 1994 ERA European Cup winner Susann Hansen, and his brother rallycross driver Kevin Hansen.
Hansen Motorsport, which competed under the title Team Peugeot-Hansen as Peugeot's official partner in the motorsport of rallycross, is an auto racing team founded by Swedish racing driver Kenneth Hansen in 1990. The team has been competing in rallycross since its creation. Hansen Motorsport used Citroën cars exclusively from 1993 and switched to Peugeot in 2014. Hansen Motorsport ran Peugeot's entry in the World Rallycross Championship from 2014 to 2017.

The event was held at the Höljesbanan in the village of Höljes, Värmland and also hosted round six of the European Rallycross Championship and round four of the RX2 International Series, the main support category for the World Rallycross Championship.
The 2017 World RX of Latvia was the tenth round of the fourth season of the FIA World Rallycross Championship. The event was held at Biķernieku Kompleksā Sporta Bāze, in the Latvian capital of Riga. Johan Kristoffersson secured the drivers' title, after winning the event. Kristoffersson's closest rival for the title, teammate Petter Solberg, was involved in a first lap crash with Jānis Baumanis in semi-final 2. The semi-final was red-flagged as Solberg was taken to a hospital in Riga. At the hospital it was determined that he had broken two ribs and his left collarbone.

Pista Automóvel de Montalegre is a motorsport race track situated in the municipality of Montalegre, in the Vila Real District of Portugal, close to the Spanish border. It primarily runs the Portuguese round of the European and World Rallycross championships, having hosted the latter from 2014 to 2018 and again since 2021. Before the 2022 World RX of Portugal, the layout was revised and lengthened.
