The 2024 Canadian Premier League season is the sixth season of the Canadian Premier League, the top level of Canadian soccer. Forge FC are the defending champions, having beaten Cavalry FC in the 2023 final. [1]
The same eight teams that competed in the 2023 season are competing in the 2024 season. [2] The CPL's total player compensation budget was increased by $87,500 to a total of $1,112,500 (or $1,212,500 for teams maximizing the U21 salary incentive). [3]
York United was bought by a new ownership group from Mexico, Game Plan Sports Group. [4]

The regular season is being played as a quadruple round-robin, with each team playing the other seven teams twice at home and twice away between April and October. The regular season winner (the team ranked first after all 28 games) will qualify for the 2025 CONCACAF Champions Cup and the top five teams will qualify for the playoffs; the top two will get a bye to the semifinals. According to FIFA, the Canadian Soccer Association's 2024 pre-season transfer window opened on January 31 and closed on April 23; the mid-season transfer window will open on July 18 and close on August 14. [26] However, the CPL later announced that it's mid-season transfer window will instead open on July 5 and close on August 2. [2]
The 2024 CPL–U Sports Draft took place on December 14, 2023. Each team made two picks in the draft, for a total of 16 selections. [27]
Canadian Premier League teams can sign a maximum of seven international players, out of which only five can be in the starting line-up for each match. [3]

The Canadian Premier League is a professional men's soccer league in Canada. At the top of the Canadian soccer league system, it is the country's primary national soccer league competition. Forge FC, also known as Forge Football Club, Forge FC Hamilton, or Hamilton Forge FC, is a Canadian professional soccer club based in Hamilton, Ontario, that competes in the Canadian Premier League, the top tier of Canadian soccer. The club plays its home matches at Tim Hortons Field. Forge FC joined the CPL in 2019 as one of the league's seven inaugural teams.

The Cavalry–Forge rivalry is a soccer rivalry between Calgary-based Cavalry FC and Forge FC of Hamilton, Ontario. The two clubs began play in 2019 and faced each other nine times that season with all matches being decided by one goal or fewer. The clubs were the top teams in the inaugural Canadian Premier League season and the natural rivalry that developed between them has been described as the best in the league.

The CPL Shield was won by Cavalry FC who finished first in the regular season by a 13 point margin. In the CPL final, Forge FC defeated Cavalry FC 2–1 in Hamilton to capture the North Star Cup. In doing so, Forge became league champions for the fourth time in five seasons. Both title winning clubs qualified for the newly expanded 2024 CONCACAF Champions Cup.
