The 2024 Firestone Indy NXT Series is the 37th season of the Indy NXT open wheel motor racing series and the 22nd sanctioned by IndyCar, acting as the primary support series for the IndyCar Series. This is the second year of the championship running under the Indy NXT moniker following its acquisition by Penske Entertainment, the owner of the IndyCar Series, in 2022. [1]

Mid-season

  • On March 26, 2024, Abel Motorsport announced they would enter a fourth car for the four oval events, piloted by USAC short-track driver Taylor Ferns. [7]
  • On May 2, 2024, Abel Motorsport released a statement stating Josh Mason would not drive the No. 21 car in the Indianapolis Grand Prix for budgetary reasons. [32] Jordan Missig was named as his replacement a day later, with the American making his Indy NXT debut after spending the last three years in USF Pro 2000. [4]
    • The team fielded neither driver at the Detroit Grand Prix, opting to only enter the No. 22 and No. 51 cars.
  • On May 31, 2024, Juncos Hollinger Racing announced it had signed USF Pro 2000 competitor Ricardo Escotto for a part-time schedule comprising the races at Detroit, Laguna Seca, Milwaukee and Nashville. [25]

Schedule

The 2024 schedule was announced on October 4, 2023. The IMS weekend in May became a double-header again as the second IMS weekend was removed, while the Detroit weekend will only hold a single race. The Laguna Seca double-header was moved to June following the rescheduling of the Monterey Grand Prix. The round at Nashville became the season finale to follow the same move for the Music City Grand Prix. The championship will return to the Milwaukee Mile for the first time since 2015. [33]

On February 14, It was announced that the Big Machine Music City Grand Prix would be moved from the downtown Streets of Nashville to the Nashville Superspeedway instead due to anticipated construction beginning on the new Tennessee Titans Stadium, which would interfere with the course for the race. Juncos Hollinger Racing, formerly Juncos Racing, is an Argentine-American racing team competing in the IndyCar Series, Indy NXT and USF Pro 2000 Championship series in the Road to Indy ladder for IndyCar. Owned by Ricardo Juncos, who formed the team in 1997, the team was initially based in Argentina before limited racing opportunities in that country led to the team moving to the United States. The team is currently based in Indianapolis, Indiana. Following Williams F1 shareholder Brad Hollinger's entry to the team as partner in 2021, the team was renamed to Juncos Hollinger Racing.

Michael d'Orlando is an American racing driver who competes in the 2024 Indy NXT driving for Andretti Cape Indy NXT. He previously drove for Turn 3 Motorsport in the 2023 USF Pro 2000 Championship. He is the 2022 USF2000 champion.

The 2022 Indy Lightspresented by Cooper Tires was the 36th season of the Indy Lights open wheel motor racing series and the 20th sanctioned by IndyCar, acting as the primary support series for the IndyCar Series. It was held over 14 races, consisting of two ovals and nine road and street courses. It was the last held under the "Indy Lights" branding.

Nolan Siegel is an American racing driver. He currently competes in the Indy NXT with HMD Motorsports and competes part-time in the IndyCar Series with Dale Coyne Racing. Siegel previously competed in the U.S. F2000 National Championship with DEForce Racing.

The 2023 Firestone Indy NXT Series was the 36th season of the Indy NXT open wheel motor racing series and the 21st sanctioned by IndyCar, acting as the primary support series for the IndyCar Series. Known as Indy Lights before 2023, the championship was rebranded following its acquisition by Penske Entertainment, the owner of the IndyCar Series, in 2022. This rebrand coincided with the three lower support series, still run by Anderson Promotions, also changing their branding.

The 2023 USF2000 Championshippresented by Cooper Tires was the fourteenth season of the USF2000 Championship since its revival in 2010. When the top rung of the Road to Indy ladder system, Indy Lights, was bought by Penske Entertainment in 2021 and the lower level series changed sanctioning to the United States Auto Club, changes were made to the other championships in the ladder. This, together with the Indy Lights being rebranded to Indy NXT, effectively ended the "Road to Indy" branding, with the three championships below Indy NXT now collectively called "USF Pro Championships Presented by Cooper Tires". The USF2000 Championship served as the middle rung of this ladder.

The 2024 USF Pro 2000 Championship presented by ContinentalTire is the 26th season in series history and the second under the USF Pro 2000 moniker after the three championships below the Indy NXT series were rebranded in 2023 following the acquisition of Indy NXT by Penske Entertainment.
