Alxa Right Banner Badanjilin Airport [lower-alpha 1] ( IATA :RHT, ICAO :ZBAR) is a regional airport serving the town of Badanjilin,the seat of Alxa Right Banner in Inner Mongolia,China. [2] [3]
Badanjilin Airport is one of the three airports of Alxa League in western Inner Mongolia,the other two being Alxa Left Banner Bayanhot Airport and Ejin Banner Taolai Airport. The three airports form a commuter airport network that connects the three banners of Alxa League,which covers a vast area (272,000 square kilometres (105,000 sq mi)) of the Gobi Desert. [2]
Construction for the airports started in August 2012,with a total investment of 389.5 million yuan,and all three airports opened on 17 December 2013. [2] All three airports are classified 3C,suitable for 50-seat aircraft such as the Xian MA60. Badajilin is the smallest among the three,and it is projected to handle 45,000 passengers annually by 2020,compared with 250,000 for Bayanhot and 80,000 for Taolai. [2]

It was first built in 1970 for fighting forest fires in the nearby Greater Khingan Mountains. The airport was opened to commercial flights on June 19,2012. It will continue to be used mainly for the forestry industry,with limited commercial flights. Ejin–Hami railway or Eha railway,is a railway in western China between Ejin Banner in Alxa League of western Inner Mongolia and the city of Hami in the eastern part of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. The line runs 644 km (400 mi) through the deserts near the Mongolian border. Apart from Inner Mongolia and Xinjiang,the line also crosses the Subei Mongol Autonomous County,the sliver of Gansu Province that extends to the Mongolian border. Construction began on June 30,2014 and was slated to take three years,but the line opened only 17 months later on December 1,2015. The opening of this rail line shortened the distance by rail from Hohhot,Inner Mongolia's capital,to destinations in Xinjiang and Kazakhstan by over 800 km.
