Bonakele Amos Majuba (born 10 May 1968) is a South African politician and educator who has served as the MEC (Member of the Executive Council) for Education in Mpumalanga since May 2019. A member of the African National Congress, he has been a Member of the Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature since May 2009. Majuba was the deputy speaker of the provincial legislature between March 2018 and May 2019.

Early life and education

Majuba matriculated from Mehlomakhulu Senior Secondary School and then went on to study at the then Transvaal College of Education where he achieved his senior teachers diploma in 1991. [3] He worked as a teacher at St Joseph's Comprehensive School from 1992 to 2000. [3]

Political career

Majuba was elected as the regional secretary of the South African Democratic Teachers Union for the Western regional office in KwaMhlanga in 2001. He was elected as the SADTU Deputy Provincial Secretary in 2006. In 2004, Majuba was elected as the deputy chairperson of the South African Communist Party's Ephraim Mogale District. [3]

From 2007 to 2008, Majuba was the acting provincial secretary of the SACP in Mpumalanga. He was also elected deputy president of SADTU in 2008. [3] After the 2009 provincial election, Majuba became a Member of the Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature for the African National Congress. [3] He was then elected as the provincial secretary of the SACP later in 2009. [3] He was a member of the provincial legislature's Standing Committee on Public Accounts, the education committee, and many other committees during the fourth legislative term (2009 to 2014). Majuba also served as the chairperson of the Public Works, Roads and Transport committee from 2009 to 2012. [3] Following the 2014 provincial elections, Majuba was appointed to five committees. He was elected as the deputy speaker of the provincial legislature in March 2018. [2]

Following the 2019 provincial election, premier Refilwe Mtsweni-Tsipane appointed Majuba as the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for the Mpumalanga Department of Education. [4]

Refilwe Maria Tsipane, known as Refilwe Mtsweni-Tsipane, is a South African politician and a party member of the African National Congress (ANC), who has been serving as the 5th Premier of Mpumalanga since 20 March 2018. She succeeded former Premier David Mabuza after he was appointed Deputy President of South Africa. Mtsweni-Tsipane is also a Member of the Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature and previously served as the MEC for Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs.

Vusi Robert Shongwe, known as Vusi Shongwe, is a South African politician who served as acting Premier of Mpumalanga between August and November 2015 while then Premier and now deputy president David Mabuza was being treated for an alleged food poisoning. He has 3 children, one of which is known as Naledi Shongwe.

Leonah Lindiwe Mabona-Ntshalintshali, known as Lindiwe Ntshalintshali, is a South African politician who served as MEC for the Mpumalanga Department of Culture, Sports and Recreation. She is currently the MEC for Social Development and the acting Provincial Secretary of the African National Congress (ANC) in Mpumalanga. She is a former mayor for the Emalahleni Local Municipality in Witbank as well as a former Deputy President of the South African Local Government Association (SALGA).

Tsietsi Peter Nyoni is a South African politician and a member of the African National Congress (ANC) who currently serves as the Deputy Director-General for the Mpumalanga Provincial Government. He previously served as one of the executive directors for the Mpumalanga Human Settlements Department until he was removed in 2013 from the position by then Premier David Mabuza. He was appointed to head the Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs in the province in August 2016 until February 2020 when current Premier Refilwe Mtsweni-Tsipane made him the provincial government's Deputy Director-General.

Sasekani Janet Manzini is a South African politician who currently serves as the MEC for Health in the Mpumalanga provincial government, appointed in July 2018 as well as the Provincial spokesperson of the African National Congress (ANC) in Mpumalanga. She was elected to serve on the ANC's provincial executive committee (PEC) in December 2015 from the position of provincial African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) secretary. Manzini served as the MEC for the provincial Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport from August 2016 to July 2018. She has been a member of the Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature since February 2016.

Mandla Jeffrey Msibi is a South African politician and educator who has been the Mpumalanga MEC for Agriculture, Rural Development, Land and Environmental Affairs since February 2021 and a Member of the Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature since May 2019. He was the MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs from May 2019 to February 2021. Prior to serving in the legislature, he was the speaker and a councillor in the Mbombela Local Municipality. Msibi is a member of the African National Congress.

Mosimanegare Kenneth Mmoiemang is a South African politician who has been a permanent delegate to the National Council of Provinces since May 2019. He is a member of the Northern Cape delegation. He was the provincial MEC for Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs from 2009 to 2013 and the speaker of the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature from 2013 to 2019. Mmoiemang is a member of the African National Congress (ANC).

Gillion Pudumo Mashego is a South African politician who served as the Mpumalanga MEC for Public Works, Roads and Transport from July 2018 until February 2021. He has been a Member of the Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature for the African National Congress since May 2014. He was the provincial Health MEC from May 2014 until July 2018.

Zolile Monakali is a South African educator and politician who has served as the Northern Cape MEC for Education since 16 September 2020. He was sworn in as a Member of the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature on 8 September. Prior to serving in the provincial government, he was the Executive Mayor of the Pixley ka Seme District Municipality. Ngomane served in the position until an executive council reshuffle in February 2021.

Sikhumbuzo Eric Kholwane is a South African politician and lawyer who served as the Mpumalanga MEC for Finance, Economic Development and Tourism from May 2014 to May 2019. He was also a member of the Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature during that time. Prior to serving in the Mpumalanga provincial government, Kholwane was a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa from 2004 to 2014. He is a member of both the African National Congress and the South African Communist Party.

Kwazikwenkosi Innocent Mshengu is a South African lawyer and African National Congress politician who has served as the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Education in KwaZulu-Natal, and has also been a member of the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature since May 2019. Nonkqubela Ntomboxolo Pieters is a South African politician and educator who has been the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Rural Development and Agrarian Reform since 2021 and a member of the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature since 2019, representing the African National Congress (ANC). She previously served as the MEC for Human Settlements from 2019 to 2021. Pieters served as the speaker of the Cacadu District Municipality from 2006 to 2018.
