The 36th Chicago Film Critics Association Awards, presented to recognize the best in film of 2023, were announced on December 12, 2023. [1] [2] [3]
The nominations were announced on December 8, 2023. For the first time in the awards' history, three films shared the position of most nominated— Killers of the Flower Moon , Oppenheimer , and Poor Things —all receiving ten nominations each. In terms of nominations, they were followed by Barbie with nine and May December with seven. [4] [5] [6]

The Chicago Film Critics Association Award for Best Original Score is one of several categories presented by the Chicago Film Critics Association (CFCA), an association of professional film critics, who work in print, broadcast and online media, based in Chicago. Since the 6th Chicago Film Critics Association Awards (1993), the award has been presented annually. The nominations from 1993, 1994 and 2004 are not available. The first Chicago Film Critics Association Award for Best Original Score went to composer Michael Nyman for his score to The Piano. The most recent recipient of this award is Robbie Robertson for the Western crime drama film Killers of the Flower Moon. It was awarded posthumously.

Past Lives is a 2023 American romantic drama film written and directed by Celine Song in her feature directorial debut. Starring Greta Lee, Teo Yoo, and John Magaro, it follows two childhood friends over the course of 24 years while they contemplate the nature of their relationship as they grow apart, living different lives. The plot is semi-autobiographical and inspired by real events from Song's life.

The documentary centers around Pastor Seungeun Kim, a South Korean human rights activist and director of the Caleb Mission, which has rescued over 1,000 North Korean defectors since 2000.
20 Days in Mariupol is a 2023 Ukrainian documentary film directed by Mstyslav Chernov. The film tells the story of the twenty days Chernov spent with his colleagues in besieged Mariupol after Russia began its invasion of Ukraine. Chernov compiled footage that he collected in Mariupol together with the team from Frontline and the Associated Press (AP). The film premiered on 20 January at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival where it won the Sundance World Cinema Documentary Competition. It was selected as the Ukrainian submission for the Best International Feature Film at the 96th Academy Awards, and made the December shortlist, but was not nominated for International Feature Film, but received a Best Documentary Feature nomination. Film also was nominated for BAFTA in 2 categories, and won Directors Guild of America Awards. It received critical acclaim and was named one of the top 5 documentary films of 2023 by the National Board of Review. Film was screened at the start of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly. Film received more than 20 awards and 40 nominations in general.

Killers of the Flower Moon (Soundtrack from the Apple Original Film) is the soundtrack album composed by Robbie Robertson for the 2023 film Killers of the Flower Moon by Martin Scorsese. It was Robertson's final completed film score before he died in August 2023; the film is dedicated to his memory. For his score, Robertson received a posthumous nomination for the Academy Award for Best Original Score in 2024.
