Citibus [1] was an English bus operator in Greater Manchester.
Citibus was formed as a coach operator in 1979. [2] In 1983 it obtained a road service licence, and began to compete with GM Buses on their Centreline route in Manchester, and on the route between Manchester and Blackley, in early 1986. [3] The Centreline route was abandoned following accusations of aggressive tactics by GM Buses drivers. [3] Further routes started following bus deregulation in October 1986 linked Manchester to Middleton, Oldham and Ashton-under-Lyne. [4]
In July 1993 the 41-vehicle operation was purchased by Lynton Travel, owners of County Bus & Coach in South-East England. [2] Citibus was then sold on to GM Buses North in 1995. [5]
It may have been GM Buses's intention to run this as a low cost operator but it did not last long as GM Buses North was purchased by FirstBus in February 1996 and the operations were merged into First Manchester.
Citibus' original bus fleet consisted of Leyland Panthers new to Isle of Man Transport in a light blue and black livery. [3] From 1988 onwards these were replaced by Leyland Atlanteans, most of which were new to South Yorkshire Transport, and the livery was changed to two-tone blue. [4] Under Lynton Travel ownership a few vehicles were transferred from County Bus & Coach, including a number of Mercedes-Benz 0709D minibuses, but few Citibus vehicles survived long after sale to GM Buses. Kelvin Scottish Omnibuses Ltd was a bus operating subsidiary of the Scottish Transport Group based in Bishopbriggs, Strathclyde, Scotland. It was formed in March 1985 from parts of Walter Alexander & Sons (Midland) Ltd and Central SMT, initially with six depots and a varied fleet of 381 vehicles.

Badgerline was a bus operator in and around Bristol from 1985 until 2003. Its headquarters were in Weston-super-Mare. Initially a part of the Bristol Omnibus Company, it was privatised in September 1986 and sold to Badgerline Holdings in a management buyout. It went on to purchase a number of bus companies in England and Wales. In November 1993, Badgerline Group was listed on the stock exchange and, on 16 June 1995, it merged with the GRT Group to form FirstBus.
MTL Trust Holdings was an English bus, coach and train operator based in Liverpool. MTL was originally part of the MPTE. To comply with the Transport Act 1985, the bus operations were divested into a new independent company, Merseyside Transport Limited (MTL). Merseyside PTA retained shareholding, but the company was purchased by its management and staff in 1993. On 17 February 2000, MTL was purchased by Arriva.

Boro'line Maidstone, previously Maidstone Borough Council Transport was a municipal bus operator in Maidstone and the surrounding villages. Maidstone Borough Council Transport was formed in 1974 from Maidstone Corporation Transport following local government reorganisation. In 1986 Boro'line Maidstone was formed as an arm's length company of Maidstone council from the operations of Maidstone Borough Council Transport. The company had a brief London operation. Following financial difficulties, the London operation was sold to Kentish Bus, and after a period of administration, the assets of the Maidstone operation was sold to Maidstone & District in 1992.
The Burnley Bus Company is a bus operator running services in the boroughs of Burnley and Pendle, and into the surrounding areas including Accrington, Keighley and Manchester. It is a subsidiary of Transdev Blazefield.

In 1993 it was one of the first companies to be acquired by the Stagecoach Group, which eventually rebranded the operation as Stagecoach in East Kent, and made it part of the Stagecoach South East bus division.
Invercargill Passenger Transport Ltd was a bus company which operated public transport routes in Dunedin and Invercargill as well as school transport services in those cities as well as Queenstown and leisure and tourism transport services throughout the South Island of New Zealand
GM Buses was the main bus company serving the ten metropolitan districts of Greater Manchester in North West England. The company was formed in 1986 by the Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive. In December 1993, it was split into GM Buses North and GM Buses South in order to increase competition for services in the area, before they were sold to FirstGroup and Stagecoach respectively.

Busways Travel Services was an English bus operator that operated services in the Tyne & Wear area. In July 1994, Busways was purchased by Stagecoach.
The Passenger Transport Executive (PTE) bus operations were the bus operating divisions of the passenger transport executives in the United Kingdom. In 1986 they underwent a process of deregulation and privatisation, forming some of the largest private bus companies in the UK outside London, with all being sold to their employees or management. Despite their relative size and lucrative operating areas, none of the companies survived beyond the late 1990s, with all falling into the hands of the major bus groups, who had their origins in privatised regional subsidiaries of the former National Bus Company and the Scottish Bus Group.
