Wang Yongzhi is a Chinese aerospace scientist and academician at the Chinese Academy of Engineering and a commissioner of the 11th National People's Political Consultative Conference. He is notable for serving as the general architect and designer of China's Shenzhou program from 1992 to 2006 overseeing the first six Shenzhou missions. In 2003,he was awarded the nation's highest scientific and technological prize,State Preeminent Science and Technology Award,by President Hu Jintao. Wang Yongzhi graduated from Moscow Aviation Institute in 1961.

He was serving as Chairperson of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee from 16 March 2018 to 13 March 2023. He was vice-chairperson of the National People's Congress Environment Protection and Resources Conservation Committee from July 2016 until March 2018. He was the former Communist Party Secretary of Jiangsu,and prior to that the provincial governor. He died on 1 April 2023 at the age of 72.
