The Congress of the State of Zacatecas (Spanish : Congreso del Estado de Zacatecas) is the legislative branch of the government of the State of Zacatecas. The Congress is the governmental deliberative body of Zacatecas, which is equal to, and independent of, the executive.

Contents

The Congress is unicameral and consists of 30 deputies. 18 deputies are elected on a first-past-the-post basis, one for each district in which the entity is divided, while 12 are elected through a system of proportional representation. Deputies are elected to serve for a three-year term.

Current Composition

The current LXIV Legislature of the Congress of Zacatecas initiated on September 7, 2021 and will conclude on September 6, 2024. The current legislature will be in session concurrent with the governorship of David Monreal Ávila.

Same-sex marriage has been legal in Zacatecas since 30 December 2021. On 14 December 2021, the Congress of Zacatecas passed a same-sex marriage bill by 18 votes to 10. The legislation was published in the official state gazette on 29 December, and came into force the following day. Prior to statewide legalisation, five municipalities of Zacatecas issued marriage licenses to same-sex couples despite a state ban, comprising about a quarter of the state population. These five municipalities were Zacatecas City, Cuauhtémoc, Villanueva, Miguel Auza and Fresnillo.

General elections in Spain are the elections in which the citizens of Spain choose members of the Congress of Deputies and of the Senate, the two chambers of the Cortes Generales that represent the Spanish people. They are held every four years, unless a repeat or early election is called. Since the adoption of the Constitution of 1978, 14 general elections have been held in Spain. The most recent elections were held in July of 2023. Members of the Congress of Deputies are elected via a system of proportional representation. Members of the Senate are elected via a mixed system: some are elected via a majoritarian system and others are appointed by the legislatures of autonomous communities.

Karla María Rabelo Estrada is a Mexican politician affiliated with the National Regeneration Movement party. Since September 1, 2021, she has been a deputy in the LXV Legislature of the Congress of the Union.
