The Crystal Film (Dutch : Kristallen Film) is a film award recognising domestic box office achievements in the Netherlands. The Crystal Film is awarded to documentary films from the Netherlands once they have sold 10,000 tickets.

The award is an initiative of the Netherlands Film Festival and the Netherlands Film Fund to increase media attention for Dutch documentary films, in addition to the existing Golden Film and Platinum Film for Dutch films in general. [1] They announced the introduction of the Crystal Film on 28 April 2005. [2] The first Crystal Film was awarded on 21 June 2005 to Shape of the Moon (2004). Since its introduction, the Crystal Film has been awarded to twelve films. [lower-alpha 1]

The Netherlands Film Festival is an annual film festival, held in September and October of each year in the city of Utrecht.

The Golden Film is a film award recognizing domestic box office achievements in the Netherlands. The Golden Film is awarded to films from the Netherlands once they have sold 100,000 tickets. The award is an initiative by the Netherlands Film Festival and the Netherlands Film Fund to increase media attention for Dutch films. For each awarded film there is one trophy for the film crew and another for the film cast.

The Netherlands Film Fund is a subsidy fund for Dutch film productions and was founded in 1993. The Netherlands Film Fund is itself mainly subsidized by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science. In 2007, the total budget of the fund was €33,000,000.

The Diamond Film is a film award recognising domestic box office achievements in the Netherlands. The Diamond Film is awarded to films from the Netherlands once they have sold 1,000,000 cinema tickets or more during the original circulation. The award is initiated by the Netherlands Film Festival and the Netherlands Film Fund in addition to the Golden Film for 100,000 visitors, the Platinum Film for 400,000 visitors, and the Crystal Film for 10,000 visitors of a documentary film.

Netherlands Association of Film Distributors is an association for film distributors in the Netherlands, based in Amsterdam. Sixteen film distributors in the Netherlands are member organizations. Weekly, the association publishes information about new film releases and box office results in the Netherlands. The box office awards Crystal Film, Golden Film, and Platinum Film are based on this information.

Experimental filmmakers ask whether things could not be done differently. Underground films analyse and critique the mainstream film industry. They step back and reflect. Simultaneously, they take forward leaps to assess new options. Sometimes the makers are self-taught visual artists who make innovative work thanks to their original point of view. Other filmmakers primarily play with the medium film and seek an alternative to the dominant visual culture.

The Metropole Orkest is a multiple Grammy winning jazz and pop orchestra based in the Netherlands, and is the largest full-time ensemble of its kind in the world. A hybrid orchestra, it is a combination of jazz, big band and symphony orchestra. Comprising 52–97 musicians, it is versatile across many musical forms, and is equipped with a "double rhythm section“ – one for pop and rock, and one for jazz based music.

Leonard Retel Helmrich

Leonard Retel Helmrich is a Dutch cinematographer and film director. He was born the 16th of August 1959 in Tilburg, Netherlands and has lived in Amsterdam since 1982. He received highest honours for international documentaries at the Sundance Festival and was the first two-time International Documentary winner at the International Documentary Filmfestival Amsterdam (IDFA). On June 5, 2018 he was rewarded by the Dutch King Willem-Alexander with the title Knight in the Order of the Netherlands Lion, a very high distinction.

Hetty Naaijkens-Retel Helmrich raised in the Netherlands, is the director of Scarabeefilms (Netherlands). She has produced several award-winning documentaries.

Caramel Pictures is a production agency with offices in Amsterdam, London, and Miami. Formerly known as Will van der Vlugt Film Productions, it was renamed to Caramel Pictures in 2007.

The Leiden International Film Festival (LIFF), founded in 2006, has become one of the leading film festivals in the Netherlands showcasing feature films that examine the boundary between art-house and mainstream from all over the world. With its American Indie Competition LIFF cultivates an audience in the Netherlands for emerging American filmmakers.

Hans de Wolf

Hans de Wolf is a Dutch television, documentary and film producer. He is also a guest tutor at the Netherlands Film Academy and the Maastricht Academy of Dramatic Arts. From 1985 to 1989 Hans was director of the Netherlands Film Festival. From 1990 onwards he was producer at production company Egmond Film & Television, winner of the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film at the 68th Academy Awards with the film Antonia's Line. Together with Hanneke Niens he co-founded company KeyFilm in 2008.
