Dholera is a town in Ahmedabad district of Gujarat state in India. [1]

History

Dholera was also an ancient port-city in Gulf of Khambhat, 30 km. from Dhandhuka village of Ahmedabad district. Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, Dholera is one of the nine temples built by Swaminarayan.

Since 2011, the Government of Gujarat has been making plans to develop a smart city at Bhal area. [2] [1] The economic viability of the project has been questioned by farmer organisations. [2] [3] Several investors who initially signed the Memorandum of Understanding to develop the project, have withdrawn and refused to invest. [3]

Geography

The region is located in a low lying area and is flood prone. [2] [3] In August 2019, the area was waterlogged and remained cut off from other cities for three days. [2]

Planned infrastructure

Gujarat Government has proposed a new International Airport for Ahmedabad city at Fedara. The proposed international airport is to be strategically located near the planned SEZ project of the Adani Group at Dholera. A new seaport was initially proposed, but the plans have been abandoned. [3]

In January 2021 a monorail project to link Ahmedabad and the Dholera Special Investment Region (DSIR) was approved. The 60 billion (US$750 million) Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) will run parallel to the expressway and have seventy stations. [4] [5]

The project site is spread over 1,426 hectares about 80 km (50 mi) from Ahmedabad and around 20 km (12 mi) from the Dholera Special Investment Region (DSIR).

The Surat Metro is an under-construction rapid transit rail system for Surat in the Surat Metropolitan Region, Gujarat state of India. Two corridors with a combined length of 40.35 kilometers are under construction since 18 January 2021. The project is expected to be completed by December 2027 at an estimated cost of 12,020.32 crore (US$1.5 billion).

Dholera Special Investment Region (DSIR) is a greenfield industrial planned city near Dholera in Gujarat's Ahmedabad district, around 100 kilometers to the south-west. spread over more than 920 km2 it is a new industrial city being jointly developed by the Government of India and Gujarat. Dholera is strategically located, well connected with trade gateways and falls in the influence zone of proposed Delhi – Mumbai Industrial Corridor project (DMIC), a joint initiative by the Government of India and Japan.

Dholera is a taluka in Ahmedabad district of Gujarat state in the western part of India. Situated within the Ahmedabad district, Dholera Taluka is characterized by its strategic positioning along the Gulf of Khambhat, approximately 30 kilometers south of the city of Ahmedabad. Dholera is the headquarters of this taluka.
