The Downtown Winters Historic District, also known as the Main Street Historic District, is a historic district in Winters, Yolo County, California which includes the block of Main Street between Railroad Avenue and First Street. The district is the commercial center of Winters and includes commercial buildings built between the 1870s and 1912. Twenty buildings are included in the district, thirteen of which are contributing buildings. The most prominent building in the district is the DeVilbiss Hotel, which was built in 1899 and designed by A.A. Cook of Sacramento. The Bank of Winters Business Block, a 1904 structure located across from the hotel, is also considered a centerpiece of the district. Two buildings in the district date from the founding of Winters in the mid-1870s: the Opera House and the Chulick Market. The remaining buildings in the district were mainly built in two waves, one in the 1890s and one from 1906 to 1912. [2]

The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places on January 2, 1997. [1]

The Moline Downtown Commercial Historic District is a nationally recognized historic district located in Moline, Illinois, United States. Centered on 5th Avenue, it is roughly bounded by 12th Street to 18th Street, 4th Avenue to 7th Avenue. The distinct covers 33-acre (0.13 km2) and includes 114 buildings. One hundred of the buildings contribute to the significance of the district because they retain their historic and architectural integrity and reflect the character of the historic downtown.

Edward Bassford

Edward Payson Bassford (1837–1912) was an architect who practiced in St. Paul, Minnesota, in the late 19th century. Born in Calais, Maine, on June 7, 1837, he moved to St. Paul in 1866. He worked in the office of Abraham Radcliffe for a time, then founded his own architectural firm. By the 1870s, Bassford was the busiest architect in St. Paul, working on designs for houses, schools, and many commercial buildings. His firm also employed architects who later were famous in their own right, such as Cass Gilbert, Augustus Gauger, Edward J. Donohue, Silas Jacobson, and Charles Bassford. He died in Osakis, Minnesota, on July 20, 1912.

It encompasses the heart of the city's civic and commercial business district, extending along Main and Water Streets between Pike and Elm Streets, extending for short distances along several side streets. Main Street Commercial Historic District is a national historic district located at Hamlet, Richmond County, North Carolina. The district encompasses 23 contributing buildings, 3 contributing structures, and 1 contributing object in the central business district of Hamlet. It includes buildings built between about 1900 to about 1940 and notable examples of Queen Anne, Art Deco, and Classical Revival architecture. Located in the district is the separately listed Seaboard Air Line Passenger Depot. The Belfast Commercial Historic District encompasses two blocks of the central business district of Belfast, Maine. This area includes the best-preserved and most architecturally interesting commercial buildings of the city's mid-to-late 19th century development, when it was the leading port on Penobscot Bay. It extends along Main Street from the major intersection and Church Street north to Washington Street. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980, and is entirely contained within the larger Belfast Historic District.

The district encompasses 70 contributing buildings in the central business district of LaPorte. It developed between about 1860 and 1930, and includes examples of Queen Anne, Romanesque Revival, and Neoclassical style architecture. Notable buildings include the Zahrt Blocks, Ridgway Hotel (1863), Higday and Collins Blocks (1886–1888), LaPorte County Courthouse (1890–1894), Odd Fellows Building (1895), Lonn's Block (1889), People's Bank (1912), U.S. Post Office (1912), New York Central Depot (1909), Masonic Temple (1910), and Hotel Rumely (1912).

Old Main Street Historic District (Dubuque, Iowa) United States historic place

Old Main Street Historic District is a nationally recognized historic district located in Dubuque, Iowa, United States. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. At the time of its nomination it consisted of 33 resources, which included 30 contributing buildings and three non-contributing buildings. In 2015 the boundaries were increased to include five more buildings. Four of the buildings are contributing properties that were excluded from the original district because they were slated to be torn down as a part of the expansion of U.S. Route 61. While the highway was built the buildings were spared. The fifth building is non-contributing as are three structures.

The South Main Street Historic District in Memphis, Tennessee, is located south of the city's central business district encompassing over 100 mostly commercial buildings spread across 11 blocks. The area was constructed between 1900 and 1930 in a wide range of early-twentieth-century architectural styles including Beaux Arts, Georgian Revival, Art Deco and Chicago Commercial. The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982 as an area of Memphis representing the impact of the railroad on the city during the a period of railroad-led prosperity that ended with the Great Depression. The district includes the Lorraine Motel, constructed in 1925, where Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated in 1968. The South Main Arts District is a smaller area within the historic district. The district is also a City of Memphis local historic district or Historic Overlay District.
