Koushik Sen (born 19 September 1968) is an Indian actor in film, television and theatre, based in Kolkata. He is the director of the theatre group Swapnasandhani. He won a Bengal Film Journalists' Association Award for best supporting actor for his performance in the Mrinal Sen directed film Aamar Bhuvan. [2] He was awarded Girish Purashkar 2023 by the Cultural Department of the Government of West Bengal for his extraordinary contributions to theatre. [3] This year he was also awarded Telly Academy Best Actor Award for Godhuli Alap series.

Personal life

Kaushik Sen was born into a Baidya Brahmin family on 19 September 1968. He is the son of actress Chitra Mondal Sen and actor Shyamal Sen. He studied at the Julien Day School, and graduated from Scottish Church College, both in Kolkata. Sen is married to Reshmi Sen and has a son, Riddhi Sen. [4]

Stage performance

Since 1992 he has been the director of Bengali theatre group Swapnasandhani . The group has staged around fifty plays and performed in all the major theatres at Kolkata. Their most recent plays are Hamlet and Taray Taray.

In 2010, the group staged the play Birpurush , which was inspired by Rabindranath Tagore's poem. It was a political play and dealt with the contemporary context of West Bengal. The play stirred up some controversies. [5]

Sen appeared with Soumitra Chatterjee in the play Tiktiki.

Works

Sen made his acting debut in 1979 with Mrinal Sen's Ekdin Pratidin as a child actor.[ citation needed ] He has acted in more than seventy films. <i>Byomkesh Pawrbo</i> 2016 Indian film

Byomkesh Pawrbo is a 2016 Indian Bengali language thriller film directed by Arindam Sil. The film is a sequel to the 2015 film Har Har Byomkesh. Produced jointly under the banner of Shree Venkatesh Films and Surinder Films, the film reprises cinematography and music by Soumik Haldar and Bickram Ghosh respectively. Sayantika Banerjee as Gulab Bai (cameo) is doing a special dance number for a particular scene which is being choreographed by Saroj Khan. The film stars Abir Chatterjee, Ritwick Chakraborty and Sohini Sarkar in lead roles. The movie is based on the story Amriter Mrityu by Saradindu Bandyopadhyay. The film was released on 16 December 2016 to positive critical reception.

Anirban Bhattacharya is an Indian actor, theatre actor, singer and director. His first successful theatre production was Debi Sarpamasta, written by Manoj Mitra, directed by Debesh Chattopadhyay. Nabyendu Chatterjee was an Indian Bengali and Hindi film director and producer. A director of twelve feature films and three documentaries, Nabyendu has curved out a sure niche for him in the field of serious and useful cinema of India.
