David Morgan, sometimes known as "The Great Indian Fighter", was a notable soldier, mountaineer, pioneer, and frontiersman in what is now the state of West Virginia.
Prickett's Fort State Park is a 188-acre (76.1 ha) West Virginia state park north of Fairmont, near the confluence of Prickett's Creek and the Monongahela River. The park features a reconstructed refuge fort and commemorates life on the Virginia frontier during the late 18th century.
Westmoreland State Park lies within Westmoreland County, Virginia. The park extends about one and a half miles along the Potomac River and covers 1,321 acres. The Horsehead Cliffs provide visitors with a panoramic view of the Potomac River, and lower levels feature fossils and beach access. The park offers hiking, camping, cabins, fishing, boating and swimming, although mechanical issues in 2021 kept the swimming facility closed. William S. Gilliland Log Cabin and Cemetery is a historic home and family cemetery located in Charleston, West Virginia. It was the home and graveyard of one of Charleston's oldest families, the Gillilands. They built the log cabins and lived there until selling it to the Neale family in 1868.
Fort Gaddis is the oldest known building in Fayette County, Pennsylvania and the second oldest log cabin in Western Pennsylvania. It is located 300 yards (270 m) east of old U.S. Route 119, near the Route 857 intersection in South Union Township, Fayette County, Pennsylvania. Fort Gaddis was built about 1769-74 by Colonel Thomas Gaddis who was in charge of the defense of the region, and his home was probably designated as a site for community meetings and shelter in times of emergency, hence the term "Fort Gaddis," probably a 19th-century appellation. It is a 1 1/2-story, 1-room log structure measuring 26 feet long and 20 feet wide.

Fort Pleasant — formerly known as Fort Van Meter and Town Fort and still also known as the Isaac Van Meter House — is a historic site located near the unincorporated community of Old Fields about 5 miles north of Moorefield in Hardy County, West Virginia, U.S. Situated on the South Branch Potomac River, a young Colonel George Washington directed a fortification to be built here in 1756 during the escalating hostilities with Native Americans and French known as the French and Indian War. The fierce skirmish known as the Battle of the Trough occurred about a mile and a half away the same year. The existing Federal style house, built just after the American Revolution, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.

Henry Funkhouser Farm and Log House is a historic home located at Baker, Hardy County, West Virginia. Located on the property are the contributing log cabin; a log barn ; and a cellarhouse (1938). The log cabin was built about 1845, and is a two-story, side gable, single-pen house. A kitchen addition was built about 1900. Also on the property is the Funkhouser family cemetery. The property remains in the Funkhouser family.
Cooper's Rock State Forest Superintendent's House and Garage is a historic home and garage located at Cooper's Rock State Forest near Morgantown, Monongalia County, West Virginia. The house was built between 1938 and 1940, and is a two-story, symmetrical log building, measuring 35 feet by 43 feet. Also on the property is a contributing garage also of log construction. Both buildings were built by the Civilian Conservation Corps, CCC camp number 3527, Camp Rhododendron.
Camp Rhododendron, also known as Camp Rhododendron Recreational Historic District, is a historic Civilian Conservation Corps camp and national historic district located at Cooper's Rock State Forest near Morgantown, Monongalia County, West Virginia. The district includes seven contributing buildings, one contributing structure, and two contributing objects. It was constructed between 1936 and 1942, and includes a pumphouse, Robert Fechner Monument, information booth, three pavilions, an overlook / walkway, concession stand, fire warning sign, and trail chalet. They are built of hewn logs and sandstone and representative of the Depression-era Rustic style of architecture. Located nearby is the Cooper's Rock State Forest Superintendent's House and Garage, also built by the CCC.
Greenmont Historic District is a national historic district located at Morgantown, Monongalia County, West Virginia. The district includes 409 contributing buildings, 4 contributing structures, and 2 contributing objects in a primarily residential area of the Greenmount neighborhood of Morgantown. Most of the dwellings were built between 1901 and 1925 and are of frame construction with brick or wood facades, one- to 2+1⁄2 stories high with gable fronts. Notable buildings include the Reformation Orthodox Presbyterian Church. Also in the district are the separately listed Kern's Fort, and Hackney House.
Morgantown Wharf and Warehouse Historic District is a national historic district located at Morgantown, Monongalia County, West Virginia.
Spring Valley Farm, also known as the Richard Dickson Farm, is a historic home and farm located near Union, Monroe County, West Virginia. The main house began as a two-story log cabin built in 1793. The main, or big, house was added to the original log unit between 1837 and 1841. It is a two-story building with large brick chimneys on either end of its gently sloping gable roof. The front facade features a two-story porch that extends the entire length of the main unit. The porch has plain white wood columns with a Chinese Chippendale style railing on the second floor. Also on the property are a variety of contributing outbuildings including the Shop and Root Cellar, 1834 Well, Smoke House or Meat House (1840), Granary, the Old Stable, Cattle Barn, Second Creek Fort Well, Horse Barn (1905), Old Garage (1930), Machine Shed (1915), and Old Log Building.
Middle Mountain Cabins are a set of three historic cabins located in the Monongahela National Forest near Wymer, Randolph County, West Virginia. They were built in 1931, and consist of the Main Cabin and Cabins 1 and 2. The Main Cabin is a one-story, rectangular, stained log building measuring approximately 22 feet by 20 feet. It has a gable roof and full-length porch. Cabins 1 and 2 are mirror-images of each other. They are one-story, frame buildings with gable roofs measuring approximately 25 feet by 14 feet. They were built to provide quarters for fire lookouts and to serve as a base for conducting other Forest Service operations. They have since been converted for recreational use, and are available for rental as a group.
Jessee’s Mill is a historic grist mill located near Cleveland, Russell County, Virginia. The original section was built about 1850, as a single pen log structure. About 1890, a two-story balloon frame addition was built on top of the old log structure. The mill retains much of its original milling equipment. Also located on the property are the contributing mill dam and a frame barn. The mill remained in operation until 1932.
