Stena Horizon is a passenger and vehicle ferry operated by Stena Line. The vessel operates between Rosslare, Ireland and Cherbourg, France.

History

Stena Horizon was built in 2006 as the Cartour Beta. She was constructed at the Italian shipyard of Cantiere Navale Visentini.

Caronte & Tourist

Upon completion the vessel was chartered to Sicilian ferry operator Caronte & Tourist. The vessel operated between Salerno and Messina until replaced by a new ship in May 2011.

In October 2011 the vessel entered service with Irish ferry operator Celtic Link Ferries replacing the Norman Voyager. Prior to entering service the ship was renamed Celtic Horizon.

Stena Line

On 26 February 2014 Stena Line announced that they had agreed to purchase Celtic Link Ferries with effect from 31 March 2014. [2] Celtic Horizon was renamed Stena Horizon and is managed by Northern Marine Ferries. [3] Stena Horizon carries a maximum of 660 passengers, [4] though she has a design capacity for 972.

Sisterships

Stena Horizon is the third of four near-identical ships built by Cantiere Navale Visentini. The other ships being Stena Mersey, Stena Lagan and Cartour Gamma.

MV <i>Cotentin</i>

Cotentin is a ROPAX ferry owned and operated by Brittany Ferries between Poole and Cherbourg from January until March 2021 and then Portsmouth and Le Havre from March 2021 until June 2021. She previously operated for Brittany Ferries between 2007 and 2013 between Poole–Cherbourg before being chartered to Stena Line as Stena Baltica serving the route between Gdynia and Karlskrona. MS <i>Normandy</i> Ferry

MS Normandy was a ferry, last owned by the Singapore-based oil service company Equinox Offshore Accommodation, under charter to the Morocco-based ferry operator Ferrimaroc. She was built in 1981 by Götaverken, Gothenburg, Sweden, and first entered service in 1982 as MS Prinsessan Birgitta for Stena Sessan Line. MS <i>Isle of Inishmore</i> (1996)

MS Isle of Inishmore is a ro-ro ferry owned by Irish Ferries and operated on their Dover-Calais service. At the time of her introduction, she was the largest car ferry operating in Northern Europe. She is named after Inishmore, the largest of the Aran Islands. The name of the ferry is tautologous, since "Inishmore" derives from the Irish for "big island". Despite not being sister ships, the ship's design is copied from the Stena Line vessel Stena Jutlandica up until the superstructure.

MV <i>Connemara</i>

MV Connemara is a RORO passenger and freight ferry registered under the Cypriot flag, on charter to Brittany Ferries from Stena RoRo. Connemara currently sails from Rosslare Europort, Ireland to Bilbao, Spain and Cherbourg, France. From 2007 to 2010, she was operated by Balearia as Borja, then between 2010 and 2011 as Baltic Amber for AVE Lines and then DFDS Seaways, before subsequently spending four years on charter to LD Lines. She spent the majority of autumn 2014 and 2015 on charter to Inter Shipping sailing from Algeciras, Spain, when she was then chartered by ANEK Lines, being replaced by Nova Star Cruises's Nova Star. The ship was renamed Asterion which comes from Greek Mythology of Asterion, the King of Crete.

MV <i>Etretat</i>

Stena Livia is a roll-on/roll-off (Ro/Ro) ferry operated by Stena Line on their Travemünde – Liepaja. It was built in 2008, and originally named Norman Voyager.
