MTV Live is an American television program that aired from 1997 to 1998 on MTV, featuring interviews with celebrity guests, live musical performances, news coverage, and music video premieres.

1997 series

The program began its run in September 1997 in the then-newly acquired Times Square Studio on Broadway in New York. Toby Amies, Carson Daly and Ananda Lewis served as resident hosts to the daily hour-long live broadcast until its eventual merger with Total Request on September 14, 1998, forming what is now known as Total Request Live . In a similar vein to its successor, the series featured celebrity interviews, music video premieres, musical performances, and reports from MTV News. Through a partnership with Intel, viewers were able to call into the show via voice or video calls using their own computers or kiosks established at locations such as the Mall of America. [1]

2007 series

A separate program with the same title began airing on MTV in February 2007. This version of MTV Live featured live performances filmed at the Hard Rock Cafe in Times Square. Through a partnership with Verizon Wireless, subscribers were able to submit text comments from their cellphones to appear in a crawl on the screen, as well as have their cellphone concert footage edited into the program. It was the network's attempt to capitalize on the emerging popularity of music videos as seen on MTV. From January 5, 2001 to August 30, 2002, the show changed to Late Friday showcasing new stand-up comedian talent with original video of sets from a stand-up club like setting, with an established comedian as guest host.

Amp'd Mobile was a cellular phone service launched in the United States in late 2005, and in Canada in early 2007. The company was a Mobile Virtual Network Operator offering 3G voice and data services over the Verizon Wireless EV-DO network, including text and picture messaging, push-to-talk, and over-the-air downloadable applications and content from its Amp'd Live service. Its primary non-venture capital investors were MTV Networks and Universal Music Group. MTV Icon is a series of annual television specials produced by MTV between 2001 and 2004, each paying homage to a musical artist or band selected as a cultural icon, in a format similar to the network's annual Video Music Awards and Movie Awards events. A live audience of musicians, celebrities, and fans would view a biographical film depicting the career of that year's chosen icon, interspersed by celebrity introductions and live performances of popular artists playing cover versions of the icon's songs. The iconic artist would then accept an award and perform a live set of their own at the close of the show. Broadcast weekday mornings and hosted by Nick Lachey, the show featured entertainment news, celebrity interviews and musical performances. The series was originally hosted by Carrie Keagan, who departed the series in 2013. Lachey took over for Keagan in March 2014.
