Route 80 is a state highway in southeastern Missouri. The route is located in northern New Madrid and central Mississippi Counties.

Route description

Route 80's western terminus is at U.S. Route 61/62 near Matthews, which is located midway between Sikeston and New Madrid, with a junction with I-55 located about a mile (1.6 km) to the east. East Prairie is the only other town on the highway. Its eastern terminus is a dead end at the Mississippi River in Belmont.

History

At Belmont, there used to be a ferry connecting Route 80 to Kentucky Route 80, which is a major eastwest thoroughfare across southern Kentucky, continuing into Virginia, as Virginia State Route 80. [2] [3] [4] The toll ferry service was discontinued in 1984. [5] [6]

The route was designated around 1967, after the KY 130 designation was removed from the section in Caseyville, which was connected to the community since 1939.

The original alignment of Kentucky Route 67 (KY 67) was a north–south primary state highway that traversed Edmonson and Warren counties in south central Kentucky. It was one of the original state routes of the state highway system maintained by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. It was established in 1929 and was officially decommissioned in 1969. At the time of its removal from the state route system, it was estimated to be 21.491 miles (34.586 km) long as determined by the KYTC's state route logs and county road logs.
