The Mizoram Premier League (also known as Zote Toyota Mizoram Premier League [1] for sponsorship ties) is the highest state-level football league in Mizoram, India. [2] [3] [4] On a national scale, it is the 5th tier of Indian football league system. [5] The competition is conducted by the Mizoram Football Association, the official football body of Mizoram, [2] with Tetea Hmar as its secretary and key promoter. [6] [7] The league started on 24 October 2012 for the first time. [8]

Mizoram Premier League has eight clubs. [9] The four top clubs qualify for the MPL automatically [10] While the other 4 teams will be decided via a playoff . [10] The top 4 teams from the play-off shall qualify for the MPL [10] The 8 clubs playing for season 8 of MPL are Electric Veng FC, Mizoram Police, Aizawl FC , Chanmari FC , Chawnpui FC, Chhinga Veng FC, FC Venghnuai and Ramhlun North FC. [11]

Media coverage

On 14 June 2012 it was announced that the Mizoram Football Association had signed a five-year ₹ 1.25 crore deal with ZONET Cable TV Pvt. Ltd. [2] [14] The deal was signed by Mizoram Football Association president Lal Thanzara, while Zonet Cable TV Director R.K. Lianzuala (of Bethlehem Veng) signed for Zonet. [2] The deal between the MFA and Zonet is one of the most lucrative sports deals in the North East of India. [2] In 2017 it was announced the channel signed another 5 year extension with Mizoram Football Association Worth 1.5 Crores. [15] Mizoram Premier League (MPL) season 8 has been delivered to SONY by Zonet Cable TV and streamed live on SonyLIV. MPL is the first state league to be televised on a national television platform. Mizoram football enthusiasts started Aizawl Sport Association in 1945. After 1972, the name was changed to Mizoram Sports Association. In 1973 under the guidance of Shri Lal Thanhawla, football started as a separate unit and took the name Mizoram Football Association. MFA was registered under society act in the year of 1980. MFA covers 8 regional districts. It sends state teams for Santosh Trophy and Senior Women's National Football Championship.

Chanmari Football Club is an Indian professional football club based in Aizawl, Mizoram. They are currently competing in Mizoram Premier League, the top level of football in the state of Mizoram. The 2015–16 Mizoram Premier League is the 4th season of the Mizoram Premier League which is the top tier of the Mizoram football system. The campaign began on 10 September 2015 and ended on 15 December 2015.

The 2016–17 Mizoram Premier League was the fifth season of the Mizoram Premier League, the top-division football league in the Indian state of Mizoram. The league began on 1 September 2016 with eight teams competing. The league final took place on 16 December with Chanmari defeating Bethlehem VT 3–0.

The 2016–17 season is the 33rd season in the history of Aizawl Football Club and their second in the I-League, India's top flight professional football league. The season began on 1 August 2016 and will conclude in May 2017. The club ended the I-League campaign as the champions after they were reinstated into the league after they were relegated the previous season. The club will also participate in the Federation Cup while they also made it to the semi-finals of the Mizoram Premier League and the Durand Cup.

The 2017–18 Mizoram Premier League is the sixth season of the Mizoram Premier League, the top-division football league in the Indian state of Mizoram. The league began on 31 August 2017 with eight teams competing.

Aizawl Football Club held its thirty-fourth season from 1 June 2017 to 31 May 2018, entering the 2017–18 I-League season as the defending champions finishing fifth. They reached the final of the Mizoram Premier League, losing to Chhinga Veng FC. The club started in the 2018 AFC Champions League but lost to Zob Ahan in the playoff round. This meant that they qualified for the 2018 AFC Cup where they finished bottom of the group. In the Super Cup, they were eliminated in the quarter-finals by East Bengal.
