Pengiran Mohammad bin Pengiran Abdul Rahman (born 1948), pen name Zairis M.S., [1] is a Bruneian politician and writer in the Government of Brunei whole formerly took office as the second Minister of Religious Affairs from 2010 to 2015, [2] and Deputy Minister of Education from 2005 to 2010. [3]
Awangku Mohammad is born in 1948, [4] at Kampong Menengah of Temburong District. He was educated at Sultan Hassan Malay School from 1956 to 1959; Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien College in 1959; Madrasah Alsagoff Al-Arabiah Arabic Singapore in 1959; Madrasah Aljunied Al-Islamiah Singapore from 1960 to 1965; Islamic College of Malaysia from 1965 to 1968; Malayan Islamic College from 1969 to 1970. He obtained his bachelor's degree, Usuluddin Faculty majoring in Creed and Philosophy at the Al-Azhar University Egypt from 1975 to 1979; master's degree in Islamic Studies at the National University of Malaysia from 1983 to 1986; Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Malaya from 1987 to 1992. Pengiran Mohammad's career began as a religious teacher at the Raja Istri Pengiran Anak Damit Arabic Girls' Middle School in 1971. He would go on to serve several other positions such as a religious officer in 1979; Acting Superintendent of Preaching and Tabligh from 1981 to 1983; Senior Religious Officer in 1985; deputy director of the Ministry of Religious Affairs's (MORA) Institute of Islamic Studies in 1991; Director of the Institute of Islamic Studies in 1996; First Dean of the Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Institute of Islamic Studies from 1999 to 2002; Special Duties Officer (National Education Council) Ministry of Education in 2003; Deputy Minister of Education from 24 May 2005 to 29 May 2010; Interim Rector of Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University in 2007. On 29 May 2010, Hassanal Bolkiah, the Sultan of Brunei, announced the new cabinet shift and fresh appointments for a second five-year term. At 4 o'clock in the afternoon, it was declared in a titah that Pengiran Mohammad would be in charge of managing the duties of the new Minister of Religious Affairs. [6] [7] He spoke in the UNISSA Auditorium as part of the Center for the Advancement of Knowledge and Language's Special Malay Islamic Monarch (MIB), which was titled "History of the Arrival of Islam to Brunei Darussalam." [8]
On 31 July 2015, Muhammad said that one must do the Hajj according to Islamic requirements in order to have a blessed Hajj. The ministry went on to say that when doing the Hajj, one should be extremely mindful of all rules, pillars, mandates, and prohibited behaviors. To provide instructions on how to carry out various Haj rites, including Tawaf, Sa'ie, Stoning of the Jamrah, and the proper manner to put on the ihram garment, six Haj practical facilitators have been selected. Pengiran Mohammad is married to Datin Hajah Alimah binti Mohd Taib. [10] Together they have 3 children; 2 sons and 1 daughter (Dayangku Saadatul Hannan). [11] Additionally, his hobbies included reading, writing and table tennis. [3]
Despite no official announcement being made, the Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka website has labeled him as deceased, [12] followed by another 2022 article. [13]
He has co-authored several scholarly works and poetry anthologies alongside other authors and poets. at addition, he represented Brunei at the 10th World Poetry Festival in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in 2004. [3]

Saiful Rijal ibni Abdul Kahar, also spelled Saiful Rehal and Saiful Rizal, was the eighth Sultan of Brunei and reigned from 1533 to 1581. He was succeeded by his eldest son Shah Berunai.

Ismail bin Omar Abdul Aziz was a Malaysian nobleman and politician who became the first State Mufti of Brunei under the Ministry of Religious Affairs office, later State Mufti Office. He was a well-respected Malaysian expatriate ulema whom have contributed greatly to Islam and the people, notably for the State of Johor and Brunei.
Pengiran Muhammad Yusuf CBE, pen name Yura Halim, was a Bruneian nobleman, politician, civil servant, diplomat, and writer. He served as the Chief Minister of Brunei from 1967 to 1972. He wrote the lyrics for Brunei's national anthem, "Allah Peliharakan Sultan," in 1947. The song was adopted as the country's official national anthem in 1951, when it was still a British protectorate. He was longtime member of the Legislative Council of Brunei, serving on the council until his death in 2016.
Kampong Kiarong or commonly known as Kiarong, is a village in Brunei-Muara District, Brunei, as well as a neighbourhood in the country's capital Bandar Seri Begawan. It has an area of 383.43 hectares ; the population was 4,530 in 2016.
Bukit Bendera is a populated area in Tutong, the town of Tutong District, Brunei. It is officially a village-level subdivision under the mukim or subdistrict of Pekan Tutong, as well as a designated postcode area with the postcode TA1341. Parts of Bukit Bendera area is also under the spatial jurisdiction of Tutong Municipal Department, the municipal body of the town.
The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, Brunei Darussalam is a ministry in the Government of Brunei Darussalam responsible for the policies and development of the country's national culture, youth, and sports. It was established immediately upon Brunei's independence on 1 January 1984. It is led by a minister, and the incumbent is Nazmi Mohamad who has held office since 7 June 2022. The Istana Darussalam is the former residence of Omar Ali Saifuddien III and birthplace of Sultan of Brunei, Hassanal Bolkiah. The palace is located at Jalan Darussalam, Sumbiling Lama, Brunei-Muara District, Brunei. The building has become a tourist attraction and currently under the protection of the Antiquities and Treasure Trove Act of the Museums Department.
Cermin Island is an islet at the mouth of Brunei River in the Mukim Kota Batu, Brunei-Muara District, Brunei. During the Brunei Civil War, a battle unfolded on the island and it's sometimes referred to as the Peperangan Pulau Cermin. A proposal for an 5 hectares protection status to be implemented on the island. The island is home to sundry vegetation and swamp forests.
Mohammad Jamil Al-Sufri bin Umar, pen name Wijaya, was a nobleman, historian and teacher from Brunei who previously served as a member of the Royal Council, member of the Royal Succession Council, member of the Islamic Religious Council, and member of the Privy Council. He has also been referred to as the National Historian. He wrote works on the country's history, ancestry, customs and traditions, royal titles, Malay Islamic Monarchy (MIB), education, writings on Brunei heroes, and other topics.
Mohammad Zain bin Serudin, pen name Shukri Zain, is a Bruneian nobleman, politician and no who formerly held the position of Minister of Religious Affairs from 1986 to 2010. He has traveled abroad and made significant literary contributions to Malay-Islamic literature, including Islamic poetry and usage of his own Malay language to convey his poetic ideas. He also was the leader or president of the Brunei Youth Council (BYL), and a member of the Privy Council.
Badaruddin bin Othman, pen name Badaruddin H.O., is a nobleman, politician and diplomat from Brunei who currently serves as the Minister of Religious Affairs (MoRA) since 2015. He also formerly held the position of Minister of Home Affairs (MoHA) from 2010 to 2015. Within the limited group of political leaders, Pehin Abdul Aziz bin Umar and Pehin Badaruddin were regarded as the two primary proponents of the Melayu Islam Beraja (MIB) philosophy and the heads of the more orthodox Islamic faction.
Nasruddin ibni Besar Abdullah, sometimes spelled Nassaruddin and posthumously named Marhum di Kianggeh, was the self-proclaimed 15th Sultan of Brunei and the grandson of Sultan Abdul Jalilul Akbar. It was under his reign that the first gold coins or pitis were introduced, with the name Nasiruddin Malik al Zahir.
Pengiran Abu Bakar MBE was a nobleman, civil servant, and politician who became the fifth Speaker of the Brunei legislative council, serving from 1 December 1974 until his retirement on 14 December 1981. Notably, he is the father-in-law to Princess Masna Bolkiah.
Yahya bin Ibrahim, pen name Yahya M.S., was a nobleman, poet and politician from Brunei who served as the Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs from 1986 to 2005, and the Chief Syar’ie Judge. He had a career in the government service of Brunei, in which he held a number of important positions such as being a member of the Privy Council of Brunei. Additionally, he was considered one of the first to write Islamic poetry in the country.
Muslim bin Burut, pen name Muslim Burmat, was a writer from Brunei who wrote a great deal of literature, particularly novels and short stories that are used in Brunei's educational institutions. In addition to receiving numerous literary honours, his works—which are primarily realistic but also include fresh historiography—showcase aspects of Brunei society.
Mahmud Saedon bin Othman was a Bruneian writer and Muslim scholar. His proficiency in the legal and Islamic domains, served as the foundation for the nation's giving of diplomas in law and Syar'ie law. Additionally, he was the principal advocate for the progressive reinstatement of syariah laws as the supreme law of the nation and the Islamic Legal Specialist in the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MORA).
