Mount Pulai (Malay : Gunung Pulai) is a mountain located in the district of Kulai, Johor, Malaysia. [1]
During the World War II, Mount Pulai served as the British Commonwealth armies stronghold against the invading Japanese Imperial Army. There are still remnant of fortress, rails, tunnels, aircraft landing site and wells deep at the mount forest. There are initiative by non governmental organization (NGO) to reintroduce Mount Pulai as a jungle war memorial to educate the peoples on the story of the mount during the World War II. [2] [3]
Gunung Pulai is the source of Pulai River which flows through the districts of Kulai, Mukim Pulai (Johor Bahru) and Pontian. Excessive mining activities at the foot of Mount Pulai by Chinese mineral mining company has destroyed the natural landscape of the area.[ citation needed ] Local villagers in the vicinity of the mountain reported up to 75 floods between 1986 and 2021. [4] The most notable mud flood occurred on 26th December 2001 which resulted in 5 deaths and the destruction of 4 houses. Consequently, the mount had been closed for visitors between 2001 and 2015, when Mount Pulai Recreational Forest 1 reopened. [5] [6]
The mountain features the Pulai Waterfall and Mount Pulai Recreational Forests 1 and 2.
The mountain houses three telecommunication towers. Two are located at the peak of the mountain and another one is located slightly lower from the peak. [7]

The Johore Wooden Railway (JWR) (Malay: Keretapi Kayu Johor ; Jawi: كريتاڤي كايو جوهر) was an early railroad in Johor, Malaya, which was intended to link Johor Bahru to an unspecified location "18 miles in the direction of Gunong Pulai". The line, which began construction in 1869 and was partially operational as of 1875, used wooden tracks, and preceded the first modern railway line operated by Perak Railway between Taiping and Port Weld by at least 10 years. By 1889, the JWR was in disuse.
Kluang, formerly Keluang, is a town in Kluang District, Johor, Malaysia. Kluang was founded in 1915 as the administrative capital of central Johor by the British. It is located in the centre of the state and is within 90 minutes of all major urban areas of Johor. Kluang, combined with Batu Pahat, encompasses central Johor with a market catchment of over 700,000. Over the 20th century, Kluang's economy transitioned from rubber to palm oil and now has some of Malaysia's largest organic farms. The industrial sector has also grown significantly with multinational investment and a critical mass of tile manufacturers enabling the district to be called the 'tile capital of Malaysia'. The organic farming sector has also boosted Kluang as an ecotourism destination with key farms such as Zenxin, UK Agro and Kahang Organic Rice Farm.
The Mount Ledang National Park is a national park located in the Tangkak District, Malaysia. It contains the 1,276 m peak of Mount Ledang and was established in 2005, and now it is one of the most famous hiking goals in Johor.
