The Nelson Police Department is the police force for the City of Nelson, British Columbia, Canada.

Among the oldest police services in British Columbia, the force came into being as a municipal police force on April 17, 1897. The initial force consisted of one chief constable and one constable. Over the years of its existence, the Nelson Police Department has grown from two to twenty members. Chief Constable Donovan Fisher has been the Chief Constable since 2021. [1] [2]

Nelson Police Department is one of eleven municipal police forces in British Columbia. [3] The department is governed under the authority of the BC Police Act. [4]

In Canada, carding, officially known in Ontario as the Community Contacts Policy, is an intelligence gathering policy involving the stopping, questioning, and documenting of individuals when no particular offence is being investigated. The interactions take place in public, private or any place police have contact with the public. The information collected is kept on record in the Field Information Report (FIR) database. FIRs include details including the individuals' gender, race, the reason for the interaction, location, and the names of any associates, to build a database for unspecified future use. Officially, individuals are not legally detained, but this distinction is not clear.

The Surrey Police Service (SPS) is a municipal police force currently proposed for the City of Surrey in British Columbia, Canada. It will be one of several police departments within the Metro Vancouver Area once the operations are handed over from Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) to SPS in 2022.
