The Ocean Spray Hotel (also known as the Carol Arms Hotel) is a historic hotel in Miami Beach, Florida, United States built in 1937. It is located at 4130 Collins Avenue (Mid-Beach). On June 2, 2004, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.

The architects of the building were M. L. Hampton Associates, and the builders were Belsham & Hampton. [2]

The Ocean Spray Hotel is an example of original Art-Deco architecture which is outside the Art-Deco-District of Miami Beach.

Streamline Moderne is an international style of Art Deco architecture and design that emerged in the 1930s. It was inspired by aerodynamic design. Streamline architecture emphasized curving forms, long horizontal lines, and sometimes nautical elements. In industrial design, it was used in railroad locomotives, telephones, toasters, buses, appliances, and other devices to give the impression of sleekness and modernity.

It is bounded by the Atlantic Ocean to the east, Sixth Street to the south, Alton Road to the west, and the Collins Canal and Dade Boulevard to the north. It contains 960 historic buildings.

The Old Martin County Court House, built in 1937, is a historic Art Deco style courthouse building located at 80 East Ocean Boulevard in Stuart, Martin County, Florida. In 1989, it was listed in A Guide to Florida's Historic Architecture, published by the University of Florida Press. On November 7, 1997, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. On March 15, 2007, it was added to the Martin County Historic Register by the Martin County Historic Preservation Board. It is now known as the Courthouse Cultural Center and is the headquarters of the Arts Council, Inc., the designated local arts agency for Martin County.

Collins Avenue

Collins Avenue, partly co-signed State Road A1A, is a major thoroughfare in southern Florida. The road runs parallel to the Atlantic Ocean in Miami Beach, Florida, one block west. Collins Avenue was named for John S. Collins, a developer who, in 1913, completed Miami’s first bridge, Collins Bridge, connecting Miami Beach to the mainland across Biscayne Bay.

Victor Nellenbogen

Victor Hugo Nellenbogen was a Hungarian-American architect known for his Art Deco and Mediterranean Revival designs in Miami Beach during the first half of the 20th century. His notable buildings include the Savoy Plaza Hotel on Ocean Drive, the Lord Tarleton Hotel on 40th and 41st Streets, and the Sterling Building on Lincoln Road.

Sears, Roebuck and Company Department Store (Miami, Florida) United States historic place

The Sears, Roebuck and Company Department Store in Miami, Florida was an Art Deco building built in 1929 for Sears, Roebuck and Company. The building was the first known implementation of Art Deco architecture in the county and was spectacular. It was followed a year later by the Shrine Building, an application of Art Deco with local Seminole Indian motifs added as an interesting twist. Both were covered in a 1988 study of Downtown Miami historic resources, but were not NRHP-listed due to owner objections at the time. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on August 8, 1997. Only its tower remains.

Martin Luther Hampton was an architect in Florida. After studying at the Columbia University in New York he settled in 1914 in Miami. Many of his buildings are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Surfcomber Hotel

Surfcomber is a boutique hotel on Collins Avenue in the historic art-deco district of South Beach, Miami, Florida. The Surfcomber was built in 1948. It was acquired by the Kimpton hotel chain in April 2011 The hotel is known for pool parties, and served as headquarters for MTV during the 2005 MTV Video Music Awards and for Bud Light during 2010 Super Bowl XLIV. It is located on the shore of Miami’s South Beach.

The Collins Waterfront Architectural District is a historic district in Miami Beach, Florida, that includes 110 contributing buildings and structures built in the late 1940s, 1950s and 1960s, centering on Collins Avenue. The predominant styles include moderne, Art Deco and Mediterranean Revival architecture, as well as the local Miami Modern style. The chief contributing resources are large resort hotels. Lawrence Murray Dixon

Lawrence Murray Dixon was an architect in Miami Beach, Florida. He was born in Live Oak, Florida, attended the Georgia School of Technology (1918-1919) and worked in New York for Schultze and Weaver from 1923 to 1929, when he moved to Miami Beach. He is credited with designing The Temple House (1933) in the South Beach section of Miami Beach as well as other Art Deco hotels and residences. Dixon is listed as a Great Floridian.

Henry Hohauser was an architect in Miami Beach, Florida. He is known for his Art Deco architecture stylings, and is listed as a "Great Floridian"; in 1993, he was ranked as one of the 100 most influential people in South Florida history by The Miami Herald.

Barbara Baer Capitman American author and preservationist

Barbara Baer Capitman was a community activist and author who led the effort to preserve Miami Beach's historic art deco district and helped create the Miami Design Preservation League. A historical marker as well as a memorial honor her in Miami Beach.

Historic Hotels of America

Historic Hotels of America is a program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation that was founded in 1989 with 32 charter members; the programs accepts nominations and identifies hotels that have maintained their authenticity, sense of place, and architectural integrity. As of June 5, 2015, the program included over 260 members in 44 states, including the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Roy F. France (1888-1972) was the American architect who is credited with creating the Miami Beach, Florida skyline.
