Chinese classic texts or canonical texts or simply dianji (典籍) refers to the Chinese texts which originated before the imperial unification by the Qin dynasty in 221 BC,particularly the "Four Books and Five Classics" of the Neo-Confucian tradition,themselves a customary abridgment of the "Thirteen Classics". All of these pre-Qin texts were written in classical Chinese. All three canons are collectively known as the classics.
The Protectorate-General to Pacify the East was an administrative division of the Chinese Tang dynasty in Manchuria and the northern part of the Korean Peninsula. It was established after the Tang dynasty defeated Goguryeo and annexed its territories. In the place of Baekje and Goguryeo,the Tang dynasty created the Protectorate General to Pacify the East and the Ungjin Commandery. A proposal to set up the Great Commandery of Gyerim by the Emperor Gaozong of Tang to King Munmu of Silla was refused.
Li Jing,courtesy name Yaoshi,posthumously known as Duke Jingwu of Wei,was a Chinese military general,strategist,and writer who lived in the early Tang dynasty and was most active during the reign of Emperor Taizong. In 630,Li Jing defeated the Göktürks,led by Jieli Khan,with just 3,000 cavalry soldiers in a surprise attack,allowing the Tang Empire to subjugate the Göktürks and reduce them to the status of a vassal under the Tang Empire. Li Jing and Li Shiji are considered the two most prominent early Tang generals.
The Book of Wei,also known by its Chinese name as the Wei Shu,is a classic Chinese historical text compiled by Wei Shou from 551 to 554,and is an important text describing the history of the Northern Wei and Eastern Wei from 386 to 550. Widely regarded as the official and authoritative source historical text for that period,it is one of the Twenty-Four Histories.
The Book of Sui is the official history of the Sui dynasty,which ruled China in the years AD 581–618. It ranks among the official Twenty-Four Histories of imperial China. It was written by Yan Shigu,Kong Yingda,and Zhangsun Wuji,with Wei Zheng as the lead author. In the third year of Zhenguan of the Tang dynasty (629),Emperor Taizong of Tang ordered Fang Xuanling to supervise the completion of the Book of Sui,which was being compiled around the same time as other official histories were being written. The Book of Sui was completed in 636 AD,the same year as the Book of Chen was completed.
The Book of Song is a historical text of the Liu Song Dynasty of the Southern Dynasties of China. It covers history from 420 to 479,and is one of the Twenty-Four Histories,a traditional collection of historical records. It was written in 492–493 by Shen Yue from the Southern Qi dynasty (479–502).
The History of the Southern Dynasties is one of the official Chinese historical works in the Twenty-Four Histories canon. It contain 80 volumes and covers the period from 420 to 589,the histories of the Liu Song,Southern Qi,Liang,and Chen dynasties in southern China during the Northern and Southern dynasties period. Like the History of the Northern Dynasties,the book was started by Li Dashi. Following his death,Li Yanshou (李延壽),his son,completed the work on the book between 643 and 659. As a historian,Li Yanshou also took part of some of the compilation during the early Tang dynasty. Unlike the many other contemporary historical texts,the book was not commissioned by the state.
Lingshu Jing,also known as Divine Pivot,Spiritual Pivot,or Numinous Pivot,is an ancient Chinese medical text whose earliest version was probably compiled in the 1st century BCE on the basis of earlier texts. It is one of two parts of a larger medical work known as the Huangdi Neijing. The other section,which is more commonly used in Traditional Chinese Medicine,is known as the Suwen 素問.
The Book of Chen or Chen Shu was the official history of the Chen dynasty,one of the Southern Dynasties of China. The Book of Chen is part of the official Twenty-Four Histories of imperial China. It was compiled by the Tang dynasty historian Yao Silian and completed in 636 AD. The Chen Shu is a biographical history book with thirty-six volumes,recording the historical facts of 33 years from the accession of Chen Baxian to the last emperor Chen Shubao.
The New Book of Tang,generally translated as the "New History of the Tang" or "New Tang History",is a work of official history covering the Tang dynasty in ten volumes and 225 chapters. The work was compiled by a team of scholars of the Song dynasty,led by Ouyang Xiu and Song Qi.

The Tang Huiyao is an institutional history of the Tang dynasty compiled by Wang Pu and presented to Emperor Taizu of Song in 961. The book contains 100 volumes and 514 sections;it has an abundant content for the period before 846,and scarce material unobtainable from the Tongdian,Old Book of Tang,and New Book of Tang.
Li Chongrun,néLi Chongzhao,formally Crown Prince Yide,was an imperial prince of the Tang Dynasty and Wu Zetian's Zhou Dynasty. He was the only son of Emperor Zhongzong and Emperor Zhongzong's second wife Empress Wei. In 701,he offended his grandmother Wu Zetian by discussing Wu Zetian's lovers Zhang Yizhi and Zhang Changzong with his sister Li Xianhui the Lady Yongtai and her husband Wu Yanji (武延基) the Prince of Wei,and he,along with Li Xianhui and Wu Yanji,were forced to commit suicide. He was posthumously honored as crown prince after his father Emperor Zhongzong was restored to the throne in 705 and in 706,Emperor Zhongzong provided Li Chongrun with an honorable burial by interring his remains at the Qianling Mausoleum.
Zhang Yizhi,formally the Duke of Heng (恆公),nickname Wulang (五郎) and Zhang Changzong,formally the Duke of Ye (鄴公),nickname Liulang (六郎),were two brothers who served as officials of Wu Zetian's Zhou Dynasty and became very powerful late in her reign. Both brothers were killed in a coup that overthrew Wu Zetian in 705.
Xiao Zhizhong was an official of the Chinese Tang dynasty and Wu Zetian's Zhou dynasty,serving as a chancellor during the reigns of Wu Zetian's sons Emperor Zhongzong and Emperor Ruizong and grandsons Emperor Shang and Emperor Xuanzong. He was known for his willingness to point out corruption in high-level officials,but was later himself implicated as a partisan of the powerful Princess Taiping and executed in 713 when Emperor Xuanzong suppressed Princess Taiping's party.
Zhao Yanzhao,courtesy name Huanran (奐然),was an official of the Chinese Tang dynasty and Wu Zetian's Zhou dynasty,serving as a chancellor during the reigns of Emperor Zhongzong,Emperor Shang,and Emperor Ruizong.
Complete Tang Poems is the largest collection of Tang poetry,containing some 49,000 lyric poems by more than twenty-two hundred poets. In 1705,it was commissioned at the direction of the Qing dynasty Kangxi Emperor and published under his name. The Complete Tang Poems is the major reservoir of surviving Tang dynasty poems,from which the pre-eminent shorter anthology,Three Hundred Tang Poems,is largely drawn.
The History of Song or Song Shi is one of the official Chinese historical works known as the Twenty-Four Histories of China that records the history of the Song dynasty (960–1279). It was commissioned in 1343 and compiled under the direction of First Minister Toqto'a and Prime Minister Alutu during the Yuan dynasty (1271–1368) at the same time as the History of Liao and the History of Jin. Running to a total of 496 chapters,the History of Song includes biographies of the Song Emperors along with contemporary records and biographical sketches of Song dynasty politicians,soldiers and philosophers.
Zhao Ying,courtesy name Yuanhui (元輝),was a Chinese historian,military general,and politician of the Chinese Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period Later Tang and Later Jin states,serving as a chancellor during Later Jin.
Li Bing,was a Chinese politician of the Northern Zhou dynasty,during the Northern and Southern dynasties period. He was the father of Li Yuan,the founding emperor of the Tang dynasty.
