Phonehenge West was a large folk art structure envisioned and constructed by Alan Kimble "Kim" Fahey, which included a 70 foot tower made from reclaimed material such as telephone poles, and props from old movie sets. The structure rested on his 1.7 acre property in Acton, California. [1] The compound included 13 structures and was a representation of folk art. [2]
The majority of the construction was done by Fahey himself over the course of 30 years. [3] Fahey is a retired phone company technician; much of the building material consisted of discarded telephone poles. [2]
The structure was destroyed by the county of Los Angeles in August 2011 for building code violations. [4]
Los Angeles County Superior Court judge Daviann L. Mitchell ordered Fahey to pay the $83,488 in demolition costs, in addition to performing 63 days of community service, of which a minimum of 5 days had to be served at the L.A. County or Kern County morgue. [2]
During the demolition, which took three weeks, four truckloads of material were removed from the property. Fahey requested that the material be saved for reuse but all 53 tons of telephone poles and 280 tons of steel were too badly damaged by the end of the demolition operation. [2] In December 2012, Fahey was sentenced to 539 days in jail for failure to pay. [5]
The name Phonehenge West is a parody of Stonehenge, a prehistoric monument located in the English county of Wiltshire.

The 1994 Northridge earthquake was a moment magnitude 6.7, blind thrust earthquake that occurred on January 17, 1994, at 4:30:55 a.m. PST in the San Fernando Valley region of the City of Los Angeles. The quake had a duration of approximately 10–20 seconds, and its peak ground acceleration of 1.82 g was the highest ever instrumentally recorded in an urban area in North America. Fort Tejon in California is a former United States Army outpost which was intermittently active from June 24, 1854, until September 11, 1864. She is known for having sentenced Soon Ja Du, the merchant who shot Latasha Harlins in the back of the head, to only five years' probation and 400 hours of community service, with no jail time. The sentence was widely condemned, including by the LA County District Attorney and black community leaders in Los Angeles, and is often cited as a catalyst for the 1992 Los Angeles riots.

Puente Hills Landfill was the largest landfill in the United States, rising 500 feet high and covering 700 acres (2.8 km2). Originally opened in 1957 in a back canyon in the Puente Hills, the landfill was made to meet the demands of urbanization and waste-disposal east of Los Angeles. By the 1990s, the landfill became an artificial mountain visible around the San Gabriel Valley region. Puente Hills accepted four million tons of waste in 2005. As of October 31, 2013, its operating permit was terminated and it no longer accepts new refuse. The former landfill is in the process of becoming a natural habitat preservation area.
Eaton Canyon is a major canyon beginning at the Eaton Saddle near Mount Markham and San Gabriel Peak in the San Gabriel Mountains in the Angeles National Forest, United States. Bolton Hall is a historic American Craftsman-era stone building in Tujunga, Los Angeles, California. Built in 1913, Bolton Hall was originally used as a community center for the utopian community of Los Terrenitos. From 1920 until 1957, it was used as an American Legion hall, the San Fernando Valley's second public library, Tujunga City Hall, and a jail. In 1957, the building was closed. For more than 20 years, Bolton Hall remained vacant and was the subject of debates over demolition and restoration. Since 1980, the building has been operated by the Little Landers Historical Society as a local history museum.

The Scholl Canyon Landfill is a municipal solid waste disposal facility and landfill located in the central San Rafael Hills, within eastern Glendale in Los Angeles County, southern California. The 314 acres (127 ha) of land is located at 3001 Scholl Canyon Road, north of the Ventura Freeway, east of the Glendale Freeway, north of Eagle Rock, and west of the Arroyo Seco. It is owned by the City of Glendale. The landfill opened in 1961.
