Shabor Dasgupta is a Bengali fictional detective character created by novelist Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay in the Goenda Shabor series. This figure is popularly known as Goenda Shabor. [1]

Character

Shabor Dasgupta is an Assistant Commissioner, Detective Department of Kolkata Police. He is a cool and intelligent officer without having a super image like other fictional detectives. He investigates in a realistic way, cracking mysteries with psychology. [2] Sometimes it appears that he is bereft of all passions and has no private life or affections. [3] [4] Shabor's assistant Nanda helps him. Like writer Mukhopadhyay, Shabor is a teetotaller, non-smoker and bachelor. [5]

Film adaptation

Director Arindam Sil made the Goenda Shabor (film series) in Bengali based on the Shabor stories. Actor Saswata Chatterjee portrays the role of the protagonist Shabor. The first film, Ebar Shabor , was released in 2015, [6] the second film, Eagoler Chokh , was released in 2016 [7] and the third, Aschhe Abar Shabor was released in January 2018. [8] On 27 May 2022, the fourth film of Shabor series Tirandaj Shabor was released. [9]

Meghe Dhaka Tara is a 2013 Indian Bengali film directed by Kamaleswar Mukherjee and made under Shree Venkatesh Films banners. The film is inspired from the life and works of Bengali film director Ritwik Ghatak. The entire film is in black and white except the last scene which has been shot in colour. In this film Saswata Chatterjee plays the character of Nilkantha Bagchi and Ananya Chatterjee plays the role of Durga, Nilkantha's wife. The film was released on 14 June 2013. Eagoler Chokh is a 2016 Indian Bengali-language crime thriller film directed by Arindam Sil. It is the sequel to 2015 film Ebar Shabor and the second installment of Goenda Shabor film series. The film is based on a story of same name, written by Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay.

Anirban Bhattacharya is an Indian actor, theatre actor, singer and director. His first successful theatre production was Debi Sarpamasta, written by Manoj Mitra, directed by Debesh Chattopadhyay. It is the sequel to 2018 film Aschhe Abar Shabor and the fourth installment of Goenda Shabor film series. The film was released on 27 May 2022 under the banner of Camellia Productions.
