Pandab Goenda is a fictional detective novel series created by Bengali novelist Sasthipada Chattopadhyay. The stories of Pandab Goenda are well known and popular in Bengali Children's literature. [1]

Characters

Pandab Goenda is a detective gang of five children who love to solve mysteries. They are Bablu, Bilu, Bhombol, and two sisters named Bachchu, Bichchhu. [2] They live in Howrah, accompanied by a one eyed street dog Panchu. Bablu always leads the team Pandab Goenda, he also carries a pistol. The five are adventurous, intelligent and fearless. Pandab Goenda roam various parts of India to solve cases. There characters are loosely inspired by Enid Blyton's detective book The Famous Five . [3] [4]

Stories

The stories of Pandab Goenda were published in Shuktara magazine in late 70's but the first book was published in 1981 by New Bengal Press. Thereafter, more than 30 books have been published in this series. Some stories were published in Bengali child magazines Anandamela and Shuktara.

Adaptation

A Bengali animation television series was developed on the Pandab Goenda stories. It was telecast for a period of 4 years by Akash Bangla Television station. [5] Under the direction of Rahul Mukhopadhyay, [6] Pandab Goenda was adapted on the small screen by Zee Bangla TV channel titled Pandab Goenda (TV series). This series was adapted from the original series but was based on a much more modern time frame. It earned huge popularity among the masses. The original storyline of the series was altered a lot and due to this particular reason, this series faced a lot of criticism from the viewers as well as from Sasthipada Chattopadhyay himself after the initial promo was released. Prothoma Kadambini was an Indian Bengali television biographical period drama based on the biography of the first practising female physician of British-ruled India and South Asia, Doctor Kadambini Ganguly. The show was aired on Bengali General Entertainment Channel Star Jalsha and is also available on digital platform Hotstar, that was premiered on 16 March 2020. The show is produced by Shree Venkatesh Films and starred by Solanki Roy and Honey Bafna in lead roles. The show went to off-air on 28 February 2021.

Ekenbabu is a Bengali detective fictional character created by author Sujan Dasgupta. The first story of Ekenbabu, "Manhatane Moonstone" was published in Anandamela in 1991.

Mukti is an Indian Bengali language historical period drama original web series streaming on OTT platform ZEE5. It is written and directed by Rohan Ghose. The series has been produced by Pritam Chowdhury under the production house Fatfish Entertainment. This nine-episode web series was released on 26 January 2022. Aditi Chatterjee is an Indian actress who is known for her work in Bengali cinema and television. She made her acting debut in Bengali cinema, as a child artist. She made her Bollywood debut with her role as Shrutakirti in Lav Kush (1997). She portrayed Trina in Rituparno Ghosh's Dahan (1997). Her first starring role was opposite Prosenjit Chatterjee in Swapan Saha's Bengali drama film Nayaner Alo (1998). She was catapulted to stardom after she starred as Nandini opposite Saswata Chatterjee in Ravi Ojha's Ek Akasher Niche. At the peak of her career she abruptly quit her career and went abroad. She made her comeback with a role in Babu Banik's Bengali TV series Raashi, in 2011. She has also appeared in popular Bengali TV series such as Trishna, Rupkatha, Akashchoyan, Kiranmala, Goyenda Ginni, Jai Kali Kalkattawali, Karunamoyee Rani Rashmoni, Ki Kore Bolbo Tomay, Mithai to name few.

Ankita Chakraborty is an Indian actress who works predominantly in Bengali Cinema and television. She is known for her appearances in the Byomkesh series films: Byomkesh Phire Elo (2014), Byomkesh Bakshi (2015), Byomkesh O Chiriyakhana (2016), and Byomkesh O Agnibaan. Her best-known television appearances are Ishti Kutum (2011) as Kamalika and Indrani (2022) as Indrani.
