Soundcity TV is a 24-hour Nigerian lifestyle and music channel based in Lagos [2] from Consolidated Media Associates Limited. Soundcity TV describes itself as a "pan-African urban music TV channel."
Soundcity TV is a popular TV station and showcases music videos, live performances, news and interviews with popular acts in addition to organizing, supporting and airing regional and international concerts. Latest music videos from the United States, England, and the rest of the world cutting across all genres are aired on the Channel. Sister brands include Soundcity Music Video Awards, Soundcity Urban Blast Festival, Buddie, Soundcity Radio Network, and Soundcity Digital. SoundcityTV began as a 30 minutes long syndicated TV show before it was launched on DStv in 2009 with recognizable Nigerian musical acts like 2face Idibia and D’banj receiving much airplay as far east as Kenya and Congo, and as far south as Zimbabwe and South Africa which in turn have their musical acts like Fally Ipupa and Freshly Ground popularized in Nigeria. Soundcity plays a powerful part in this cultural exchange.
Soundcity is available in 55 African countries with DStv, GOtv footprints. Soundcity Launched in Southern Africa after over ten years on MultiChoice's DStv on 1 December 2016 with a rebranded logo, feel and new shows like 'Top 10 Ghana', 'Top 10 South Africa', 'Top 10 Kenya' and 'Top 10 USA' with new curated playlist like 'Too Much Sauce', 'Video Unlimited' and 'Addiction'.
Nigerian artist Burna Boy emerged as the top winner at the third Soundcity MVP Awards Festival, held on January 5 at Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos, Nigeria. Soundcity Music Video Awards celebrated the best music videos by African artists in various categories headlined by an international recording artist. SMVA featured American hip hop rapper Nas, South African band Freshlyground, Tic Tac from Ghana, Wyre from Kenya, South African Hiphop group Jozi, Nigeria’s Seun Kuti and American hip hop act Mims. The Blast concert birthed as Soundcity MTN Campus Blast in 2007 where star Nigerian artists including 2face, 9ice and P Square were taken around campuses to perform to thousands of undergraduates. In 2014, the rested - campus blast became Soundcity Urban Blast Festival, a live Television concert with performances from over thirty (30) Nigerian, South African and other African artistes. [4]
In 2016, Soundcity Radio Network launched in the cities of Lagos, Abuja, Kano, Port Harcourt, Enugu and Calabar with streaming on audio and video stream on the official website.

A new award ceremony was announced by Soundcity TV in the first week of November on Soundcity Radio Network and Soundcity TV, called Soundcity MVP Awards Festival. The maiden ceremony was to take place at the Expo Centre, Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos, Nigeria on 29 December 2016. Nominated artistes ranged from Wizkid with eight nominations including African artiste of the year, Davido, South Africa's Emtee, Nasty C, Mafikizolo to Ghana's Mz Vee, Sarkodie and Tanzania's Diamond Platnumz and Vanessa Mdee. The event would be broadcast live across Africa via cable TV, Soundcity Mobile App, Facebook and YouTube. [5]
Innocent Ujah Idibia MON, known by his stage name 2Baba and formerly as 2face Idibia, is a Nigerian singer-songwriter, record producer and philanthropist known for his solo debut album, Face 2 Face. He is regarded as the "most influential" in the Nigerian music industry following his contributions to Nigerian pop music in the 2000s.
Chibuzor Oji, better known by his stage name Faze, is a Nigerian musician and actor. He was a member of the defunct Nigerian hip hop group Plantashun Boiz, along with BlackFace Naija and 2face Idibia. The group split up in 2004 and each member of the group has gone on to launch solo careers.
The MTV Africa Music Awards were established in 2008 by MTV Networks Africa to celebrate the most popular contemporary music in Africa. The 2008 and 2010 events took place in Nigeria, first in Abuja and then in Lagos. The 2009 event happened in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya each of the premiere awards were created and executive produced by Alex Okosi and Jandre Louw.
Channel O Africa Music Video Awards, once known as Spirit of Africa Music Video Awards, are Pan-African music awards organised by South Africa -based Channel O television channel. The awards were first held in 2003 under the name Reel Music Video Awards. Since 2005 the awards have been held annually. The winners are voted by Channel O's viewers across the continent.
Dare Art Alade, popularly known as Darey, is a Nigerian multi-platinum Afro R&B singer, songwriter, record producer, philanthropist, humanitarian and entrepreneur. He is also the son of the African jazz musician and entertainer Art Alade and the creative director of Livespot360.
Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, known professionally as Wizkid, is a Nigerian singer and songwriter. Born in the Ojuelegba suburb of Surulere, Lagos, Wizkid is a voice in the emerging Afrobeats movement. His music is a blend of Afrobeats, afropop, R&B, afrobeat, reggae, dancehall, and pop. He began recording music at the age of 11 and released a collaborative album with the Glorious Five, a group he and a couple of his church friends formed. In 2009, Wizkid signed a record deal with Banky W's Empire Mates Entertainment (E.M.E). He rose to the limelight after releasing "Holla at Your Boy", the lead single from his debut studio album, Superstar (2011), which also spawned the singles "Tease Me/Bad Guys" and "Don't Dull".
"Azonto" is a song by Nigerian singer Wizkid. It was produced by the record producing and songwriting duo Legendury Beatz, and was officially released on 28 January 2012. The song helped popularize Azonto, a Ghanaian music genre and dance, and peaked at number nineteen on the Afribiz Top 100 chart. Wizkid performed "Azonto" at Chris Brown's Lagos concert, which occurred at the Eko Hotel and Suites. Chris Brown talked about the dance on 106 & Park and thanked Wizkid for teaching him.
The Headies is a music awards show established in 2006 by the Hip Hop World Magazine of Nigeria to recognize outstanding achievements in the Nigerian music industry. The annual ceremony features performances by established and promising artists. It is broadcast live on HipTV to viewers across Nigeria. The first and second editions of The Headies were held at the Muson Center in Onikan, Lagos State. Between 2010 and 2012, the awards were held at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Victoria Island, Lagos. Several media personalities in Nigeria have hosted the annual ceremony, including Darey Art Alade, D'banj, Dakore Egbuson, Banky W., Rita Dominic, M.I, Tiwa Savage and Dr SID.
The Headies 2012 was the 7th edition of The Headies. It was hosted by M.I and Omawumi. The ceremony took place on 20 October 2012, at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Victoria Island, Lagos. The aforementioned hosts thrilled fans with their song titled "The Headies". Chidinma opened the show by performing her song "Kedike". The Okoye brothers won a total of three awards. The Artiste of the Year award went to Wizkid. Tiwa Savage and Wande Coal won the Best Male and Female Vocal Performance categories, respectively. Vector won the Best Rap Single and Lyricist on the Roll plaques for "Angeli". Davido won the Next Rated category and was later awarded a Hyundai Sonata. The Headies celebrated the reunion of prominent Nigerian musicians from the 80s and 90s, including Onyeka Onwenu, Oris Wiliki, Mike Okori, Baba Fryo, Shina Peters, Fatai Rolling Dollar and Daddy Showkey. Femi Kuti was honored with the Hall of Fame award.
City People Entertainment Awards are an annual accolade presented by City People Magazine to honour Nigerian and Ghanaian entertainers. The first edition was held in Abeokuta, Ogun State on June 14, 2009. The event was hosted by Governor Gbenga Daniel in the State House. The most recent ceremony was held on June 22, 2014 at 10 Degrees Event Centre, Lagos State.
Oluseye Desmond Sodamola, professionally known as Spinall, is a Nigerian disc jockey, record producer, and songwriter. He has released six studio albums and collaborated with artists that have included Wizkid, Tiwa Savage, Asake, Joeboy among others. He has won numerous awards for his work, including All Africa Music Awards and The Beatz Awards. He is also the first Nigerian disc jockey to play at festivals such as Coachella, SXSW, and Glastonbury.
Niniola Apata, known professionally as Niniola, is a Nigerian singer and songwriter. She participated in the sixth season of Project Fame West Africa in 2013 After releasing her debut single "Ibadi", she was nominated for Most Promising Act to Watch at the 2015 Nigeria Entertainment Awards.
Themba Sekowe, known professionally as DJ Maphorisa, is a South African DJ, record producer, singer, and songwriter. As a record producer with a blend of house music, amapiano and afropop, he has worked with and has received production credits from several notable artists, including Wizkid, Sizwe Alakine, Kwesta, Uhuru, Drake, Black Coffee, Major Lazer, Runtown, C4 Pedro, TRESOR, Kabza De Small, Era Istrefi, Mpura, Young Stunna and Killer Kau. He was signed to Kalawa Jazmee Records prior to establishing his own record label, BlaqBoy Music.
Oladotun Ojuolape Kayode is a Nigerian on-air personality, video jockey, actor and media entrepreneur, popularly known as Do2dtun. After pioneering a dance group called Xtreme dancers while in the university and featuring in music videos like Same Ni by Dj Zeez, Dotun came to wider prominence as a TV and radio personality, hosting shows and concerts.
The Soundcity MVP Awards Festival is an event presented by Soundcity TV which awards plaques to musicians and performers across Africa. Since 2007, the winners are chosen by the viewers and fans by visiting #TheMVPs' website and a select committee of the industry stakeholder. The first MVPs ceremony was held in December 2016 in Lagos, Nigeria.
"Pana" is a song recorded by Nigerian singer-songwriter Tekno, which was released in July 22, 2016, by Made Men Music Group, it was written by Tekno and produced by Krizbeatz. The song received mostly positive reviews from music critics and tops the MTV Base's hottest track of 2016 at number 2, it also debuted at the top 10 Soundcity TV count down.
Brian Ouko Omollo, popularly known by his stage name Khaligraph Jones, is a Kenyan rapper known for his hit singles "Mazishi" and "Yego". He released his debut full-length studio album Testimony 1990 in June 2018. Khaligraph Jones has achieved numerous awards during his career. He was nominated for 'Best Male Artist' at the 2018 Afrimma Awards, won 'Best Hip Hop Artist' at the 2020 Afrimma Awards, and was nominated for 'Best International Act' at the 2020 BET Awards.
Ikuforiji Olaitan Abdulrahman, known professionally as Oxlade, is a Nigerian singer and songwriter signed to Troniq Music, Epic Records in France, and Columbia Records in the UK. He rose to prominence with the release of the song "Away", which appeared on Rolling Stone's 50 best songs of 2020. After the success of his 2022 single "Ku Lo Sa", Oxlade was named Pandora Africa's Next Artist in July 2022.
